Patent number: 5545062Abstract: Beveled, chamfered portions are formed at one or both of front and rear ends of each of projected portions including a box-like electrical contact portion and wire-clamping portions, or all of edges of a terminal. A slanting wall, slanting in a direction of withdrawal of the waterproof rubber plug, is provided at a rear side of the projected portion. Annular protective portions are provided adjacent to front and rear ends of the conductor-clamping portion, respectively, the annular protective portions being larger in outer diameter than raised front and rear ends of the conductor-clamping portion after compressive clamping of the conductor-clamping portion. A generally semi-annular projection for preventing an inverted insertion of the terminal is provided at a bottom plate portion of the terminal, and an arch-like curved portion, extending in a direction of the width of the terminal, is formed at an apex portion of the projection.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1994Date of Patent: August 13, 1996Assignee: Yazaki CorporationInventors: Takashi Takagishi, Toshihiko Makita

Patent number: 5545049Abstract: A connector of a type where a female connector and a male connector are fitted to each other wit ha small force through the use of a lever. An elongated hollow case houses a connector body slidable in an front half of the case. The connector body has a plurality of terminals therein. A handle is mounted to a rear half of the case and is adapted to advance and retract with the connector body longitudinally within the case. A lever has a acting portion and an operating portion and journaled at an intermediate portion thereof within the case. The acting portion is pivotally connected to the handle or the connector body. The operating portion projects outwardly of the case. Pivoting the lever about the intermediate portion journaled within the case causes the connector body to advance said connector body into a fitting engagement with an external mating connector body.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1994Date of Patent: August 13, 1996Assignee: Yazaki CorporationInventors: Toshiaki Hasegawa, Satoki Masuda

Patent number: 5545047Abstract: In a connector of male and female interlocking terminals, a lever is provided on a first connector in a freely pivoting manner. Guide pins provided on a second connector are inserted to guide channels formed in the first connector. A stopper block is provided on the top wall of the first connector. A spring is connected between the back side of the lever and the back side on the top wall of the first connector. The lever is pulled by the spring against the stopper block and is held at a disengaging position in which guide grooves formed inside the lever and the guide channels are aligned to form an inlet for the guide pins. Since the lever is automatically returned to the disengaging position by the spring even if the lever is accidentally turned, it is not necessary to re-rotate the lever to the disengaging position, making connecting operation smoothly.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 1994Date of Patent: August 13, 1996Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd.Inventors: Hajime Okada, Masashi Saito

Patent number: 5545054Abstract: An electrical connector includes a dielectric housing having a through axial passage for receiving therein an electrical terminal. A cover is hingedly connected to the housing for movement from an open position to a closed position, with the cover and the housing having respective juxtaposed walls bounding at least one lateral side of the passage when the cover is in its closed position. Complementary laterally engaging latches are provided between the juxtaposed walls to hold the cover in its closed position. The wall of the cover is juxtaposed inside the wall of the housing in a lateral direction. Therefore, lateral forces on the terminal biases the wall of the cover outwardly toward the wall of the housing to ensure engagement of the laterally engaging latches.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1994Date of Patent: August 13, 1996Assignee: Molex IncorporatedInventors: Kevin C. Patent number: 5542850Abstract: A pivotal plug and receptacle connector assembly (10) is disclosed. The plug housing (40) has an opening (48) at each end formed integral thereto that engage hinge pins (142,144) extending from opposite ends of the mating receptacle housing (100). The hinge pins are arranged to snap into place within the openings and allow for relative pivotal motion of 180 degrees while maintaining electrical contact between the plug contacts (60) and the receptacle contacts (118). The plug contacts are blade shaped having two contacting surfaces (70,72) on opposite sides of the blade (64). The receptacle contacts include a pair of substantially parallel beams (122,124) having opposing contact surfaces (135,137) adjacent their ends, the two beams converging slightly near their ends (132,134) to provide two point contact with a mated plug contact (60). The plug and receptacle connectors are easily mated and separated during use.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1994Date of Patent: August 6, 1996Assignee: The Whitaker CorporationInventor: Robert H. Frantz

Patent number: 5542861Abstract: A low-cost miniature coaxial connector is provided, which attaches securely to a coaxial cable. The connector includes inner and outer contacts (30, 32, FIG. 2) constructed of rolled sheet metal and separated by an insulator (34). An inner ferrule (70) formed from a seamless tube, is first crimped around the jacket (24) of the coaxial cable. The braided outer conductor (22) of the cable is wrapped backwards around the crimped inner ferrule. The rear end (60) of the outer contact is held tightly around the braiding by an outer ferrule (72) that is crimped around the rear end of the outer contact. By crimping to the jacket (24) of the cable, the connector is securely held to the cable to withstand relatively large forces pulling the cable away from the connector. The sheet metal outer contact (32) can be reliably crimped in place by the seamless outer ferrule (72) which is crimped around it to hold it tightly around the braiding of the cable outer conductor (22).Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1991Date of Patent: August 6, 1996Assignee: ITT CorporationInventors: John W. Patent number: 5540603Abstract: A female contact 40 having highly precise anti-overstress protrusions 68 which are resistant to deformation caused by excessive external forces. Protrusions 68 that protect a spring-loaded contacting section 60 from overstress are located between a bottom wall 52 and the spring-loaded contacting section 60 which extends backward from a front end of the bottom wall 52. The protrusions 68 are formed by bending a portion inwardly of the side walls 48, 50 between two slits therein. Since these protrusions 68 are V-shaped with both ends fixed at the walls 48 and 50, they are generally not subject to deformation caused by external forces.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 1995Date of Patent: July 30, 1996Assignee: The Whitaker CorporationInventor: Yoshihito Fujiwara

Patent number: 5536186Abstract: A female terminal for receiving a male terminal includes a main body having a box part for receiving the male terminal and a leaf spring to be accommodated in the box part. The box part has engaging notches formed in both sidewalls thereof, respectively. The leaf spring has raised projections which are arranged on both sides of an end in a longitudinal direction thereof. Further, engaging projections are provided at both inlets of the engaging notches of the box part.
