Abstract: Work is irradiated with polarized light generated by configuring in such a manner as to have a polarizer using a grating that separates polarized light from non-polarized light, a lamp and a condenser mirror that allow light to fall on the polarizer, a collimator lens that converts the incoming light into parallel beams, an integrator lens that uniformizes intensity distribution of light radiated from the polarizer, and a diffusion lens with functions to enlarge or contract the irradiated range to the work size, and by forming protrusions and recesses of the shape, material, and size that fit to the desired wavelength on a substrate such as quartz, etc. that transmit ultraviolet light, and by providing the light-polarizing performance by appropriately providing an incident angle. By carrying out this processing, the alignment film in the liquid crystal display element can be photo-aligned at high accuracy and uniformly.

  • Patent number: 7894012
Abstract: A backlight device includes projections disposed on the back side of a light guide plate, and engagement holes engaging with the projections formed in a housing. The projections of the light guide plate are engaged with the engagement holes in the housing to prevent displacement of the light guide plate caused by vibration and impact. One surface of each projection is flush with a light incident surface, the area of that cross-section of each projection which is parallel or substantially parallel to the light incident surface is set such that it continuously decreases as the section is farther away from the light incident surface, and as a result, occurrence of a bright line and a dark line is prevented.

  • Patent number: 7889296
Abstract: On a glass substrate, gate bus lines, data bus lines, and TFTs are formed. Then, on the substrate, an insulating film, covering the gate bus lines, data bus lines and TFTs, is formed, and a positive type photoresist film is further formed thereon. Next, through exposure and development processes, the resist film is divided for each picture element and subjected to ultraviolet ray irradiation to harden only a surface layer thereof. Then, the resist film is subjected to heat treatment to form thereon wrinkle-form surface ruggedness of a uniform pattern, which is determined depending on the size of the resist film. Subsequently, reflection electrodes are formed on the resist film. The reflection electrodes are formed to overlap the gate bus line, data bus line and TFTs, and the regions between the adjacent reflection electrodes serve as light transmission regions.

  • Patent number: 7889290
Abstract: In general, an illumination display includes a light transmitting panel that provides enhanced illumination edge lighting. One or more light sources are optically coupled into an edge of the light transmitting panel to illuminate the light transmitting panel. The light transmitting panel refracts and reflects light such that a greater intensity of light may be emitted from one or more enhanced illumination portions, such as a raised enhanced illumination portion, of the light transmitting panel. The light source(s) may emit light of different colors corresponding to different conditions such that the illumination display indicates a condition by illuminating with the color corresponding to the condition. The illumination display may be used in various devices including, but not limited to, a device for checking the temperature of food.

  • Patent number: 7889306
Abstract: A liquid crystal display and a method of fabricating the same is capable of strengthening adhesion between a sealant and a lower plate in a panel with a high aperture ratio to which an organic protective film is applied. The organic protective film and a gate insulating film are patterned in such a manner that the sealant comes into contact with a substrate directly. Accordingly, the organic protective film or the gate insulating film at the area coated with the sealant is partially or entirely removed to directly contact the sealant with the gate insulating film or the lower glass, thereby strengthening the adhesion between the sealant and the lower plate.
