  • Patent number: 8089591
Abstract: A liquid crystal device includes a pair of substrates with at least one liquid crystal cell therebetween, filled with a mixture of an alignment solution and liquid crystal molecules. The liquid crystal molecules are exposed to UV rays and a first voltage is applied to the pair of substrates to form a polymer network in each of the liquid crystal cells. Thus, the liquid crystal molecules achieve a bend state without transiting from a splay state. Further, a method of aligning the liquid crystal molecules is provided.

  • Patent number: 8089434
Abstract: A sheet in an electronic display is composed of a substrate containing an array of wire electrodes. The wire electrodes are preferably electrically connected to patterned transparent conductive electrode lines. The wire electrodes are used to carry the bulk of the current. The wire electrodes are capable of being extended away from the substrate and connected directly to the printed circuit board. The transparent conductive electrode (TCE) is used to spread the charge or voltage from the wire electrode across the pixel. It is a patterned film and must be at least 50% transparent, and, for most applications, is preferably over 90% transparent. In most display applications, the electroded surface of the electroded sheet has to be flattened. Use of a thin polymer substrate yields a light, flexible, rugged sheet that may be curved, bent or rolled.

  • Patent number: 8089588
Abstract: A thin-film transistor array substrate, used in a transflective liquid crystal display. The thin-film transistor array substrate has a substrate, a plurality of pixels, a plurality of scan lines and a plurality of data lines. Each of the pixels has a transparent sub-pixel and a reflective sub-pixel, while the transparent sub-pixel further has a transparent electrode and a first thin-film transistor, and the reflective sub-pixel has a reflective pixel electrode and a second thin-film transistor. The pixel electrode of each sub-pixel is thus electrically connected to a different thin-film transistor. The step of forming a molybdenum layer is thus not required, saving fabrication cost.

  • Patent number: 8077286
Abstract: On an opposite substrate, such a protrusion that is not contact with an array substrate is disposed. Alternatively, on the array substrate, such a protrusion that is not contact with the opposite substrate is formed of the same material as a spacer. Still alternatively, a large wall-like spacer is disposed on the array substrate. This reduces an amount of liquid crystal sandwiched by the substrates, and thus suppresses generation of low-temperature bubbles in the liquid crystal.

  • Patent number: 8055083
Abstract: One method embodiment executes a director. The director invokes at least one “active stamp” when processing data, where each of the active stamps relates to a different data manipulation method. The active stamps comprise specialized, portable and dynamic logic processes generically applicable to a plurality of different directors such that each of the active stamps can be individually invoked by each of the different directors to perform the same operation for each of the different directors. The invoking of the active stamps by the director calls the active stamps from a resource in a structure that allows each of the different directors to individually access each of the active stamps that correspond to a current data manipulation process being invoked by each of the different directors. Because the director calls the active stamps at run time of the processing of the data, the active stamps avoid having to be compiled with the director.
