  • Patent number: 8223216
Abstract: An image processing apparatus in which auto-selecting of an object to be prioritized from among a plurality of detected objects is capable more appropriately. A characteristic detecting unit detects a previously set characteristic portion of an object from an image signal constituting a moving image. A control unit sets a priority to each characteristic portion when a plurality of the characteristic portions are detected by the characteristic detecting unit and also sets a high priority to a characteristic portion being detected for a long period of time.

  • Patent number: 8218685
Abstract: A system and method are provided for using disparity measurements to control the adjustment of a data slicer threshold. The method receives a serial stream of pseudorandom digital data signals having an average DC value, and compares data signal amplitudes to a slicer threshold value. In response to the slicer threshold value comparison, data signal “1” and “0” values are determined. A first sum of determined “1” values is created, and a second sum of determined “0” values is created. The slicer threshold value is adjusted in response to the comparison of the first and second sums. More explicitly, the slicer threshold value is adjusted to make “1” values more likely in response to the second sum being larger than the first sum. Alternately, the slicer threshold value is adjusted to make “0” values more likely in response to the second sum being smaller than the first sum.

  • Patent number: 8218015
Abstract: Method for avoiding unauthorized images of a proprietor's information from being transmitted outside the proprietor's control. A photographic image captured with a camera incorporated upon the wireless handheld communication device is wirelessly transmitted to a proprietor's server. The image is stored on the server after capture and transmission, preferably while the device is still in the photography-restricted geographical area that is under the control of the proprietor of the server. Once at the server, the photographic image is analyzed to determine whether or not the image is authorized for dissemination outside the proprietor's control. Local storage of the photographic image can be prevented on the device which assures that the transmission and storage of the photographic image on the proprietor's server is exclusive.

  • Patent number: 8212906
Abstract: An imaging device having pixels that store charge from a photosensor under at least one storage gate during a sampling period. A driver used to operate the at least one storage gate, estimates how much charge in the pixel exceeds a predetermined limit during a non-destructive pixel sensing operation. A specific voltage is stored on the pixel's floating diffusion region to flag how many times the pixel exceeded the limit. The final pixel signal and the stored information is readout at the end of integration period to create a sum that represents the pixel's final signal value.

  • Patent number: 8212874
Abstract: A system and method for automatically calibrating the aiming direction of a camera onboard a vehicle. The method uses GPS and solar almanac data to estimate the location of the sun relative to the vehicle, and compares this to the solar position in an image from the camera. The comparison is performed with an ongoing recursive calculation which yields an improved estimate of the sun position relative to the vehicle, while simultaneously calibrating the aiming direction of the camera. The aiming calibration data is used to improve the accuracy of the camera's images as used for all of the camera's other functions.
