  • Patent number: 3938481
Abstract: The invention relates to internal combustion engines of the reciprocal type, and more particularly to such engines in which the pressure for Diesel operation can be attained, or in which the power output of an Otto-cycle engine can be increased. The present invention makes possible either a Diesel engine of approximately the same axial crank offset and overall dimensions as an Otto-engine of equal throughput, or an Otto-engine having a higher throughput with slightly increased overall size and axial crank offset. The said gas supplies are impelled by two pressure inpellers which are synchronized to engine operation, a vertical pressure impeller receives a fuel-air mixture and the inverted pressure impeller receives air, a rotary metering pressure booster meters an amount of the fuel-air mixture and forces it under pressure into a pressure retaining chamber above the cylinder chamber ready to be released upon demand.

  • Patent number: 3936239
Abstract: An axially shiftable slide valve member in a rotary, helical screw compressor carries a port which senses the pressure of the working fluid in the trapped volume just before uncovering of the closed thread to the discharge port and compares that pressure with the line pressure at the discharge port and shifts the slide valve member to balance the pressures and prevent overcompression or undercompression of the compressor. The screw compressor may be provided with two identical but oppositely oriented slide valve members on opposite sides of the intermeshed helical screws with one slide valve member controlling the capacity of the compressor and the other balancing the closed thread pressure at discharge with discharge line pressure. Compressor rotation may be reversed to eliminate the need for a reversing valve where the compressor operates in heat pump or reverse flow defrost refrigeration applications, with the two slide valves trading functions.

  • Patent number: 3934565
Abstract: A mechanism is provided whereby the opening of an automatic choke valve is controlled by means of pressure in a diaphragm chamber with the chamber being selectively communicated with a vacuum pickup tube or an atmospheric pressure pickup tube through operation of a solenoid controlled valve. A switch actuatable in response to vehicle speed and another switch actuatable in response to engine temperature operate to selectively connect the solenoid controlled valve to a power source thereby to determine the operating mode of the valve.
