  • Patent number: 3972669
Abstract: A mutli-stage blowmolding apparatus wherein a carriage is reciprocable between first and second positions and supports two open-and-shut molds which are operable independently of each other. In the first position of the carriage, one of the molds receives a parison which is being extruded from the nozzle of an extruder while the other of the molds receives a preform which is suspended on the blowing mandrel of a first blowing unit. The mandrel is withdrawn before the one mold closes around a freshly extruded parison and the carriage is immediately moved to the second position in which the parison in the cavity of the one mold is in register with the first blowing unit and can be expanded by the blowing mandrel to be thereby converted into a preform. At the same time, the preform in the other mold registers with the blowing mandrel of a second blowing unit which converts the preform into a bottle or another hollow shaped article.

  • Patent number: 3968951
Abstract: Method and apparatus for injection molding an elstomeric fishing lure body for a weedless lure between cooperating dies which together define a mold cavity. One of the dies has a long, deep, narrow rib projecting into the mold cavity to form a complementary recess in the fishing lure body for concealing the hook end of a fishhook. A reciprocable plunger extends into the mold cavity at one end to form an anchoring recess for a metal or plastic head that is to be attached to this end of the elastomeric lure body and also to form a passageway leading to the bottom of the recess formed by the rib for receiving the shank of the fishhook.

  • Patent number: 3969055
Abstract: A system and method for controlling the injection of material through two or more gates into the cavity of injection-molding apparatus. In this system, a sensor develops an indication of unbalanced flow conditions produced by the injection of the material into the cavity of the mold. A regulator also forms part of the system and serves to adjust the relative amounts of material passing through the gates. The method includes sensing unbalanced flow conditions produced by the material injected into the cavity and adjusting the relative amounts of materials injected into the cavity through the various gates.

  • Patent number: 3964857
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for continuously molding plastic parts. Basically, the apparatus comprises a pair of spaced, rotatable, indexable trunnion transfer units or wheels having a plurality of radles thereon for receiving and transporting carrier bars. The wheels are indexable to a number of stations at which various activities take place and are positioned on either side of the mold area of a conventional molding machine. A carrier bar having affixed thereto a plurality of cores for the part to be molded, for example, is transported by the rotating wheel from the bottom of the first wheel to a first station where an insert may be added to the core and thence to the top position of the wheel where the carrier bar is transferred to a conveyor which in turn transports the carrier bar to the mold. After completion of the molding cycle, the carrier bar with the molded parts thereon, is transported by the conveyor to the top of the second wheel where it is inserted thereon.

  • Patent number: 3960202
Abstract: A foundry equipment comprises at least one guiding track element on which a number of identical mould parts are successively piled together in a position in which their greatest dimension is horizontal. After the formation of the mould, the guiding track element with the mould thereon is tilted about 90.degree. around a horizontal axis that is parallel to the longitudinal direction of the mould, thus bringing the mould into a position in which it is ready for the pouring operation.

  • Patent number: 3960474
Abstract: A cylindrical, synthetic plastic container having reinforcing hoops permanently bonded around the ends of the container is manufactured in a single blow molding process. Half of the outer peripheral edge portion of each of two reinforcing hoops is positioned in a semi-cylindrical mold half to place the hoops in spaced, parallel, co-axial alignment. Thereafter, a tube of soft thermoplastic is extruded through the open central portions of the hoops until the end of the tube overlies a co-axially positioned pneumatic nozzle. The semi-cylindrical mold half with the hoops retained therein is moved into engagement with a mating, semi-cylindrical mold half to form a cylindrical mold.

  • Patent number: 3950123
Abstract: Apparatus and method for forming a specialty food product, such as a fortune cookie wherein a flat, flexible cake, after being cooked, is placed on a first, flat, fixed surface and is shifted by continuously moving pins over the first surface and onto a second, flat fixed surface having a slot therethough. A continuously moving suction device removes a strip of paper from a stack and places the strip on the cake on the second surface and forces the cake into the slot to fold the same about a first axis until the cake halves formed by the fold are generally parallel with each other. As the folded cake moves downwardly in the slot, a pair of continuously rotating arms engage respective ends of the cake and fold it about a second axis which is substantially perpendicular to and slightly below the first axis.

  • Patent number: 3947196
Abstract: A rubber material is sequentially injected into a plurality of elongated molds positioned within a corresponding plurality of vertical hydraulic presses arranged in a row. The material is injected into each mold by a pair of injection molding machines which are arranged in side-by-side relation and are supported by a carriage for both axial and lateral movement as a unit. Each of the molds has a set of mold sections which are supported by upper and lower platens of the corresponding press, and each press includes a set of vertical tie rods which are spaced longitudinally along the mold and are actuated by hydraulic cylinders for rigidly clamping the platens and mold sections together. The tie rods have upper end portions which are releasably locked to the upper mold platen by a laterally movable latch mechanism. After a molding cycle, the latch mechanism is released, and the tie rods are retracted downwardly.
