  • Patent number: 8712933
Abstract: Systems and methods for determining muscle force are presented. Proportional, integral, and derivative control is used to simulate muscle forces for multiple muscles contributing to a kinematic profile. The simulated muscle forces are modified by dynamic gains that are calculated in order to achieve a muscle recruitment objective such as minimizing collective muscle effort while still achieving the kinematic motion.

  • Patent number: 8706662
Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure support a technique for neuronal firing modulation via noise control. Response curve of a typical neuron with a threshold can transition from not firing to always firing with a very small change in the neuron's input, thus limiting the range of excitable input patterns for the neuron. By introducing local, region and global noise terms, the slope of the neuron's response curve can be reduced. This may enable a larger set of input spike patterns to be effective in causing the neuron to fire, i.e., the neuron can be responsive to a large range of input patterns instead of an inherently small set of patterns in a noiseless situation.

  • Patent number: 8706657
Abstract: Systems/methods for computing a power spectral density estimate for a noise signal. Where the noise signal appears in two channels (a single channel), n successive data acquisitions from the two channels (the single channel) are used to compute n respective cross (power) spectral densities, which are then averaged. The averaged cross (power) spectral density may then be smoothed in the spectral domain. The magnitude of the smoothed cross (power) spectral density comprises an estimate for the noise power spectral density. An effective number of independent averages may be computed based on the number n, the time-domain window applied to the acquired sample sets, the amount of overlap between successive sample sets, and the shape of the frequency-domain smoothing function. A statistical error bound (or uncertainty measure) may be determined for the power spectral density estimate based on the effective number of averages and the averaged single-channel and cross-channel spectral estimates.

  • Patent number: 8706668
Abstract: Methods and systems for classifying incomplete data are disclosed. In accordance with one method, pairs of features and values are generated based upon feature measurements on the incomplete data. In addition, a transformation function is applied on the pairs of features and values to generate a set of vectors by mapping each of the pairs to a corresponding vector in an embedding space. Further, a hardware processor applies a prediction function to the set of vectors to generate at least one confidence assessment for at least one class that indicates whether the incomplete data is of the at least one class. The method further includes outputting the at least one confidence assessment.

  • Patent number: 8706655
Abstract: A multi-phase process first trains a machine learned rating classifier, and then uses the rating classifier to automatically rate videos in a selected category in a way which mimics human rating. Panels of human viewers rate videos in tuples, and these tuples along with human preference data distilled from the ratings are used to create a training set that is used to train the machine learned rating classifier. The rating classifier becomes capable of predicting human preferences with regards to videos in the selected category. Optionally a second machine learned classifier can be trained to automatically identify videos in the selected category for the panels of human viewers to rate. The output of the multi-phase process can be used to highlight content that is predicted to be higher quality.

  • Patent number: 8694453
Abstract: A dialogue control system that uses an ontology that systematically expresses domain knowledge representing concepts and relationships between concepts to determine questions for a user and implements the questions, and implements a dialogue in accordance with received user answers. One or more dimension-classified ontologies and a basic ontology are stored, a concept from a user response is specified as a condition, and one or a plural number of the dimension-classified ontologies that meet the specified condition are fetched. The content of the fetched dimension-classified ontology/ies is overwritten on the basic ontology, in order according to dimension priorities from the dimension-classified ontology with the lowest dimension priority, and a multidimensional ontology is generated. The dialogue control system uses this multidimensional ontology to control the dialogue.

  • Patent number: 8682815
Abstract: The location of the memory controllers within the on-chip fabric of multiprocessor architectures plays a central role in latency bandwidth characteristics of the processor-to-memory traffic. Intelligent placement substantially reduces the maximum channel load depending on the specific memory controller configuration selected. A variety of simulation techniques are used along and in combination to determine optimal memory controller arrangements. Diamond-type and diagonal X-type memory controller configurations that spread network traffic across all rows and columns in a multiprocessor array substantially improve over other arrangements. Such placements reduce interconnect latency by an average of 10% for real workloads, and the small number of memory controllers relative to the number of on-chip cores opens up a rich design space to optimize latency and bandwidth characteristics of the on-chip network.

  • Patent number: 8676723
Abstract: A three-dimensional application program framework structure; a method for implementing an application program based on the same; and an automatic testing system based on a three-dimensional application software framework and a method therefor. The three-dimensional application program framework structure provides a framework comprising functions and management of the environment of the system and events to be implemented by the user (developer), and the developer can easily expand the graphic user interface (GUI) and an actual modeling function as required, and user model. In addition, by using an automatic test system based on the framework, it is possible to record the function-execution history of the user and to automatically generate a test case, and to thereby test the functioning of the application software through the use of the test case regardless of changes in the source code and the GUI.

  • Patent number: 8655808
Abstract: The present invention relates to a prosthetic device including a prosthetic joint which accurately transitions between a loose mode and a stiff mode to more accurately mimic a human gait. The prosthetic joint includes a state controller which utilizes a sensor to detect prosthetic joint movement data, and compares it with prosthetic joint movement decision values to determine when a solenoid should be energized to place the prosthetic joint in the loose mode. An optimization unit connects to the prosthetic joint in a prosthetic joint system. The optimization unit generates a plurality of data files containing prosthetic joint movement data corresponding to an amputee walking without stumbling. By iteratively analyzing the prosthetic joint movement data, the optimization unit adjusts the prosthetic joint movement decision values to ensure that the prosthetic joint does not prematurely enter a stumble recovery state.

  • Patent number: 8630964
Abstract: Apparatus and method for at least partially fitting a medical implant system to a patient is described. These apparatuses and methods comprise executing a genetic algorithm to select a set of parameter values for the medical implant system. This genetic algorithm may comprise generating successive generations of child populations until a confidence threshold is reached. This confidence threshold comprises determining whether the values of each parameter value to be selected have converged on particular value with a specified confidence level. In determining whether the values have converged, one or more initial generations of the search may be excluded in computing the likelihood that the value has converged.
