  • Patent number: 7143130
Abstract: A method and system for multi-tracking among independent individuals without a monitoring center, where an individual is a person, a vehicle, or any other property, enables the individuals to be networked in a group and each individual to search and track other individuals of interest. The portable multi-tracking system is also capable of tracking personnel inside a building, where a self-contained positioning device provides continuous carrier's position information. In the open area a GPS (Global Positioning System) unit is activated to provide precision absolute position data which can be blended with the self-contained data to improve the accuracy and robustness of the positioning services. Thus the present invention provides excellent position tracking outside a building.

  • Patent number: 7143157
Abstract: Management of the network impact caused by a digital transmitter, such as a multifunction peripheral (an MFP), delays file transmission until available network bandwidth is sufficient to prevent adverse network impact. In one implementation, a resource determination module determines resource availabilities, including disk space remaining on the digital transmitter and available network bandwidth. A file priority determination module prioritizes files contained in a file library on the digital transmitter for transmission over a network. A store vs. send decision module determines if a highest priority file should be sent over the network, given the resource availabilities.

  • Patent number: 7143171
Abstract: A method and system in a heterogeneous environment, capable of locating at least one optimal access area or point for supporting one or more access technologies requested by the user. The determination of the optimal access areas or points is based in part on the location of the device, the specified user preferences, service/application requirements and the capabilities of available access network connections. The optimal access points, and alternative options, are mapped in accordance with the resulting location, combined requirements and service/application requirements of the communication device. This mapping and other information/recommendations related to the access points are then provided to the communication device for action by the user.

  • Patent number: 7143152
Abstract: A graphical user interface and method for customer centric network management. The graphical user interface includes a first view showing text input by a user indicative of customer identification data corresponding to a customer in a network. This data is received by a server connected to the user. The server retrieves stored information corresponding to the customer identification data from a database and provides the stored information and actual circuit path information corresponding to a customer service based on the stored information to the graphical user interface. A second view of the graphical user interface shows the stored information, and a third view shows a graphical representation of a customer path corresponding to the actual circuit path information.

  • Patent number: 7143195
Abstract: A system and method for managing state information between processes in different domains, and, more particularly, to software, systems and methods for determining and updating state information using hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) cookies. A state management server manages priority information based on the priority of content requested by a user agent from a number of different domains. In a preferred embodiment, domain-specific state information is collected by a plurality of front-ends operating in dynamically assigned domains, and reported to the state management server which operates in a statically assigned domain. Preferably, the state management server causes the global priority information to be stored on a client device, such as a computer, in the form of a global cookie.

  • Patent number: 7139797
Abstract: The present invention provides presence information to a subscriber indicative of the availability of a user who is already actively participating in a communication session. A presence system receives and processes participation information, which bears on the degree in which the user is participating in the communication session, and generates the presence information based on defined processing rules. The resultant presence information may indicate whether the user can be interrupted to accept other communications while engaged in the communication session. If the user can be interrupted, the presence information may also identify the most appropriate methods to contact the user during the communication session.

  • Patent number: 7139815
Abstract: A system and method are provided for transferring a set of data over a network by monitoring the level of actual network bandwidth utilization. The method identifies a maximum monitored level of actual utilization and calculates a threshold level of utilization as a function of the maximum monitored level of utilization. If the actual level of utilization is less than the threshold level, at least a portion or segment of the data is received over the network. Each time a portion of the data is received, the monitoring step is repeated and a counter is incremented. The size of the discrete portions of the data is a function of the value of the counter and is increased when the value of the counter is greater than a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 7133914
Abstract: A method and system transforms one or more lists for a data communications system into a single list, each list of the one or more lists including a plurality of entries. The method includes removing non-terminating entries from the plurality of entries in the one or more lists, the removing each non-terminating entry removing all but a last non-terminating entry in any of the one or more lists; and eliminating from the plurality of entries one or more entries that provide for one or more impossible actions, wherein the removing of non-terminating entries and the eliminating of one or more entries that provide for impossible actions, if any, produce a single list preserving tracing of the entries in the single list to the plurality of entries.

  • Patent number: 7130887
Abstract: A method and system for generating e-mail transmissions to copied recipients for providing additional information determines when an e-mail user is sending carbon-copy and/or blind carbon-copy copies of an original e-mail transmission and provides a means for providing a second message containing commentary, explanation and/or clarification information. The copy list is scanned for copied recipients and depending on e-mail program settings, prompts the sender providing an option for generating an additional message in a new window wherein the sender may type additional text. A single additional message may be generated and sent to the copied recipients, individual additional messages may be generated and sent or a first additional message for the carbon-copied recipients and a second additional message for the blind-carbon-copied recipients may be generated and sent. The additional messages may optionally contain the quoted text of the original message, whereby the sender may comment on the original text.

  • Patent number: 7130880
Abstract: A system and method for sharing files via an Internet file system is presented. In one embodiment, an internet file system is configured when a user accesses a server that is configured with an application that creates the internet file system for the user. A directory stores a home folder of the user, where folders and files in the home folder are available at a root of the internet file system. The application provides a first folder and a second folder in a root of the home folder. The first folder contains folders that represent folders and files that have been shared with the user, and the second folder contains objects of the user and communities that are of interest to the user. The application further creates an auxiliary class containing a first attribute, a second attribute, and a third attribute.

  • Patent number: 7130870
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for upgrading embedded configuration databases while a network device is operating and with minimal disruption to network device operation. While a network device is operating and using an embedded primary configuration database, an embedded backup configuration database stops performing as a backup database and is upgraded. The upgraded configuration database is then switched over to become the primary configuration database. The original primary configuration database may immediately become the backup configuration database, or the original primary configuration database may remain unchanged until the upgrade is committed. If the upgrade is not committed, for example, due to errors, then the original primary configuration database may be quickly switched over to again become the primary configuration database. As a result, embedded configuration databases may be upgraded while a network device is operating and with minimal disruption to network device operation.

  • Patent number: 7130922
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method of automatically downloading configuration files and binary code for a customer premises telecommunications hub. Upon initial power up, the hub sends a DHCP request to a DHCP server. The DHCP server sends the hub an IP address for the hub, the name of an appropriate configuration file, and identifies file servers where files may be obtained. The hub requests the configuration file from a TFTP file server, and obtains a binary file name. The hub renames the file to include its model ID. The hub then requests the renamed binary file from a TFTP file server. The binary code is downloaded and written into flash memory. The file is rechecked for the correct model ID. The hub then resets so that the new binary code is transferred into the operating RAM.
