Abstract: A system for executing a plurality of transactions comprises a first processor and a memory. The first processor is configured to execute a first transaction comprising: providing a plurality of indications to make a plurality of first changes to a plurality of first records of a database; and committing the first transaction by updating the status of the first transaction in a transaction table while not providing an indication to update the status of the first records from pending. The memory is coupled to the first processor and configured to store the transaction table.

Abstract: A database server receives a request from a client application for performing a data transaction on persistent data storage. The request is sent to a set of replication servers. An acknowledgement for the request is received from each replication server, including a start sequence number and an end sequence number for data that is stored in local cache of the replication server, and a latest committed sequence number for data that was written to the persistent data storage by the replication server. A maximum value of latest committed sequence numbers received from the set of replication servers is determined. For each replication server, it is examined whether there is a gap between the start sequence number for data stored in local cache and the maximum value of the latest committed sequence numbers. Based on the examining, it is determined whether there is an occurrence of loss of data.

Abstract: A data storage system allows a user to search a secondary copy such as a back up, archive, or snapshot and receive an abbreviated version of the secondary copy of the file system as a result of the search. The abbreviated version of the secondary copy of the file system may include metadata such as a listing of secondary copy data that correspond with a search term or other filtering criteria provided by the user. An operating system of the user's computing device may mount the abbreviated version so that it can be displayed within a view of the file system of the computing device. Once a user selects one or more desired data objects listed in the abbreviated version, the selected actual one or more data objects are retrieved from secondary storage.

Abstract: Techniques are provided for processing and categorizing data received from data sources. The processing and categorizing of the received data comprises: determining whether the digital data can be associated with one or more categories by determining whether a first match between one or more image characteristics of the one or more categories and one or more image characteristics of the digital data is found; in response to determining that the first match is found: associating the one or more categories with the digital data; determining, based at least in part on the one or more categories, one or more applications that are to be used to process the digital data; in response to determining the one or more applications that are to be used to process the digital data, initiating the one or more applications to process the digital data.

Abstract: A method and system for providing unified access to data for multiple computing devices includes a system that associates multiple computing devices with a user of an information management system, assigns information management policies to data from the multiple computing devices within the information management system, and collects multiple data objects from the multiple computers. The system may generate a preview version of each collected data object, and provide at least one preview version of a collected data object to a computing device associated with the user. The system may also generate indexing information for each collected data object and distribute the indexing information with the preview version of the data object.

Abstract: A method for matching an instance to exemplars within a system includes receiving a plurality of literature regarding medical subject matter; including the received plurality of literature related to the medical subject matter into a text artifact; indexing the artifact using encodings to derive an initial code signature; deriving association rules from the artifact seeded by the signature to obtain a list of terminology to code mappings; receiving extensions to each of the code mappings to augment the mappings with the received extensions; indexing the artifact using the received extensions to obtain an exemplar code signature for the certain subject matter; and storing the generated exemplars for matching and instance; receiving an instance and generating an instance code signature using the received extensions; matching the instance code signature to one or more exemplar code signatures.

Abstract: Embodiments utilize a framework for modeling user's social roles in online self-expression tools such as blog or social networking, via semantic modeling techniques. The different ways users engage with content when stating explicit interests in their profile and via social expressions in a community are modeled. Certain themes guide the patterns users follow for expressing their interests in this community. An embodiment allows users to track how their posts and comments reflect with their online behavior. An embodiment infers the needs of the online community and makes suggestions or recommendations or sends alerts to users. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Abstract: The present invention addresses deficiencies of the art with respect to collaborative computer networks consisting of mixed data, control functions, analysis functions, and sensors in complex systems of systems. The method involves a database framework for representing complex heterogeneous characteristics of processes, systems, and systems of systems that feature many to many interrelationships. The homoiconic graph framework takes the form of an executable graph database, which is often faster for associative data sets, and maps more directly to object-oriented computer applications for large-scale operations. The invention provides a method to execute the graph database, in that it comprises nodes that are both data fragments and executable components. It is characterized as a homoiconic or executable graph framework to distinguish this unique feature from the concept of a graph database, which generally is a repository of connected data only.

Abstract: Media content search results ranked by popularity is described. In embodiment(s), a search request for television media content can be initiated by a viewer, and television media content that is relevant to the search request can be identified. The relevant television media content can then be ranked based on a popularity rating and the relevant television media content can be displayed in an ordered list that is ordered by popularity rankings.

Abstract: Systems and methods for generating issue networks are disclosed. In one embodiment, a computer-implemented method of generating an issue network from a document corpus includes searching, using a computer, the document corpus for a set of documents discussing a starting issue, wherein the starting issue is one of a plurality of normalized issues defined by the document corpus. The method further includes determining a set of normalized issues discussed by the set of documents discussing the starting issue, wherein the set of normalized issues also includes the starting issue, and determining instances of co-occurrences of individual normalized issues of the set of normalized issues within individual cases of the set of documents. The method also includes linking individual normalized issues of the set of normalized issues based on their co-occurrences within the set of documents, wherein the linked individual normalized issues at least in part define the issue network.

Abstract: Techniques are provided for automatically determining when to trigger instant search. In one technique, while a user is entering text to formulate a search query, and prior to receiving an indication that the user has completed formulation of the search query, a search assistant system determines the most popular queries that include the text the user has already entered. The search assistant system then determines whether to proactively provide, to the user, search results for the top-candidate of those completed queries. That determination may take into account factors such as whether the top-candidate qualifies as a dominant completed query, a richness metric determined for the search results for the particular completed query, and/or a satisfaction metric determined for the search results for the particular completed query.

Abstract: A system according to certain aspects improves the process of managing log data. The system may receive a log data file including one or more log lines that contain information relating to computing operations. At least some of the log lines may include a static portion and a variable portion. The system may process a first log line to identify and extract a static portion from the first log line, and determine a first value for the first log line based on the extracted static portion. The system may process a second log line to identify and extract a static portion from the second log line, and determine a second value for the second log line based on the extracted static portion. The system may compare the first and second values, and based on the comparison, organize the first and second log lines together for presentation to a user.

Abstract: A client application of a content management system provides instructions for synchronizing content items and placeholder items using a local file journal and updated file journal. The client application compares entries in the updated file journal to entries in the local file journal to determine modifications to make to content items or placeholder items stored in a shared content storage directory on the client device. Based on the result of the comparison, the client application replaces placeholder items with content items or replaces content items with placeholder items.

Abstract: An IPTV terminal is provided. It is possible to provide an additional service allowing a user to watch video content, in addition to a service for reproducing an audio file, by extracting metadata on the audio file if a reproduction command of the audio file is input, searching for the video content related to the audio file based on the extracted metadata, and receiving and reproducing the video content.

Abstract: This application is directed to an indexing system for graph data. In particular implementations, the indexing system uses a database index infrastructure that provides for flexible search capability to data objects and associations between data objects. Particular embodiments relate to an indexing system for storing and serving information modeled as a graph that includes nodes and edges that define associations or relationships between nodes that the edges connect in the graph.

Abstract: A social networking system classifies content items according to their qualities for ranking and selection of content items to present to users within, for example, a newsfeed. Low-quality content items that are unlikely to be interesting or relevant to a user may be distinguished though they may appear to be popular among users in the social networking system. The social networking system identifies within the content items one or more features that are indicators of the quality of the content items. The social networking system can use one or more classifiers to evaluate the content items based on the features, and it can compute a quality metric indicating the quality of a content item based on the result obtained from the classifiers. The quality metric can be used in the ranking and selection of a set of content items to provide to the user.
