Abstract: Embodiments allow, within database security policies, the grant of data change operation-specific privileges to particular users to be applied within particular data realms in a given table. Furthermore, according to one or more embodiments, User Privilege column-level privileges are explicitly associated with one or more data access operations such that the grant of such a column-level privilege allows the user to perform only those data access operations that are explicitly associated with the column-level privilege. Enforcement of the data security policies includes prevention of data leakage via WHERE and RETURNING INTO clauses. According to one or more embodiments, a two-phase rewrite is used to optimize enforcement of column-level privileges. During the two-phase rewrite of a given query, the privileges checked during enforcement of the User Privilege data security policies are pruned to avoid unnecessary privilege checks given the columns that are accessed in the query.

Abstract: A system comprising a hardware storage device storing at least one program and a computer-implemented method for matching social data to a user of a networked-based content publisher are provided. Consistent with some embodiments, the method may access social network entries published on one or more social networks. Social network entries that include a reference to content published by a particular content publisher may be identified. A social network profile corresponding to a first social network entry of the identified social network entries may be identified. The method may further include determining that the social network profile corresponds to a particular user of the content publisher based on information embedded in the reference to the content.

Abstract: A minimum value (MV) is computed for start timestamps that each correspond to an uncommitted transaction. In an embodiment, the MV is computed for a pluggable database that is open on at least first and second instances of a database. The MV is computed for the first instance as of a first current timestamp (CT). The MV and the first CT are communicated to a second instance that has a second CT. If the first and second CTs are equal, the second instance store the MV. If the first CT is bigger, the second CT also becomes equal to the first CT. If the first CT is smaller, the MV is discarded, and the first CT becomes equal to the second CT. In an embodiment, if the MV remains unchanged for a predetermined time period, a start timestamp corresponding to the MV is advanced to a current or future timestamp.

Abstract: A system according to certain aspects improves the process of managing log data. The system may receive a log data file including one or more log lines that contain information relating to computing operations. At least some of the log lines may include a static portion and a variable portion. The system may process a first log line to identify and extract a static portion from the first log line, and determine a first value for the first log line based on the extracted static portion. The system may process a second log line to identify and extract a static portion from the second log line, and determine a second value for the second log line based on the extracted static portion. The system may compare the first and second values, and based on the comparison, organize the first and second log lines together for presentation to a user.

Abstract: Systems, methods and computer-readable media are provided for facilitating patient health care by providing discovery, validation, and quality assurance of nomenclatural linkages between pairs of terms or combinations of terms in databases extant on multiple different health information systems that do not share a set of unified codesets, nomenclatures, or ontologies, or that may in part rely upon unstructured free-text narrative content instead of codes or standardized tags. Embodiments discover semantic structures existing naturally in documents and records, including relationships of synonymy and polysemy between terms arising from disparate processes, and maintained by different information systems. In some embodiments, this process is facilitated by applying Latent Semantic Analysis in concert with decision-tree induction and similarity metrics.

Abstract: A system and computer-implemented method for associating images with semantic entities and providing search results using the semantic entities. An image database contains one or more source images associated with one or more images labels. A computer may generate one or more documents containing the labels associated with each image. Analysis may be performed on the one or more documents to associate the source images with semantic entities. The semantic entities may be used to provide search results. In response to receiving a target image as a search query, the target image may be compared with the source images to identify similar images. The semantic entities associated with the similar images may be used to determine a semantic entity for the target image. The semantic entity for the target image may be used to provide search results in response to the search initiated by the target image.

Abstract: In general, the subject matter described in this specification can be embodied in methods, systems, and program products for invoking a non-search action based on a search query. A server system receives a search query from a remote computing device. The server system determines whether the search query includes reserved text that indicates an intent by a user that provided the search query to the remote computing device to perform a non-search messaging action instead of or in addition to obtaining search results. The server system provides to the computing device, in response to determining that the search query includes the reserved text, code for causing the remote computing device to display a draft communication that includes at least the search query without the reserved text, and for allowing the user to edit the draft communication before transmitting the draft communication for receipt by recipient users.

An exemplary method includes storing sets of structured data records among partitioned data storage spaces, with data fields of the structured data records correlated among the sets by relational associations. The method includes maintaining data fields in a first set of structured data records, the data fields comprising promoted data fields that reference properties of data fields of a second set of structured data records. Responsive to an update to a data field of a first structured data record, the method includes determining if the update relates to a promoted data field, implementing a portion of the update in the second set of structured data records, and propagating the update to associated promoted data fields in the first set of structured data records along with any intervening changes received for the associated promoted data fields.

Abstract: A low-latency cloud-scale computation environment includes a query language, optimization, scheduling, fault tolerance and fault recovery. An event model can be used to extend a declarative query language so that temporal analysis of event of an event stream can be performed. Extractors and outputters can be used to define and implement functions that extend the capabilities of the event-based query language. A script written in the extended query language can be translated into an optimal parallel continuous execution plan. Execution of the plan can be orchestrated by a streaming job manager which schedules vertices on available computing machines. The streaming job manager can monitor overall job execution. Fault tolerance can be provided by tracking execution progress and data dependencies in each vertex. In the event of a failure, another instance of the failed vertex can be scheduled. An optimal recovery point can be determined based on checkpoints and data dependencies.

Abstract: A data center for data backup and replication, including a pool of multiple storage units for storing a journal of I/O write commands issued at respective times, wherein the journal spans a history window of a pre-specified time length, and a journal manager for dynamically allocating more storage units for storing the journal as the journal size increases, and for dynamically releasing storage units as the journal size decreases.

Abstract: Systems and methods for identifying duplicate media items in a media system are provided. In particular, media content can be uploaded to a serve. The media content can be fingerprinted. A digest is generated based on the fingerprint. The digest is indexed and potential matching media items are identified. Matches are determined from the potential matching media items.

Abstract: A method includes receiving first data from a first data source that continuously generates a first set of records with first common fields. The first data is filtered by selecting a first sub-set of fields of the first common fields to form first filtered data. Second data is received from a second data source that continuously generates a second set of records with second common fields. The second data is filtered by selecting a second sub-set of fields of the second common fields to form second filtered data, where the first filtered data and the second filtered data are generated simultaneously. Rules are applied to the first filtered data and the second filtered data in real-time to identify selected real-time events. The selected real-time events are reported prior to persistently storing the first filtered data, the second filtered data and the selected real-time events.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods and systems for integrating an enterprise's structured and unstructured data to provide users and enterprise applications with efficient and intelligent access to that data. In accordance with exemplary embodiments, the generation of classification information about unstructured data can be hardware-accelerated by processing streaming unstructured data through a reconfigurable logic device, a graphics processor unit (GPU), or chip multi-processor (CMP) to generate the classification metadata about the unstructured data.

Abstract: Distributed content-aware compression and decompression techniques are provided for data, such as seismic data. Data is compressed by obtaining a file chunk of a plurality of file chunks of a larger file, a start offset of the file chunk, and a data descriptor indicating how the file chunk should be processed based on characteristics of the larger file. Headers in the file chunk are compressed using a substantially lossless header compression technique to obtain compressed headers. Samples in the file chunk are compressed using a substantially lossless sample compression technique to obtain compressed samples. The compressed headers and compressed samples are packed into a single bit stream comprising a compressed version of the file chunk. The compression can be performed in a physical or logical layer of storage nodes of a file system or in compute nodes of a computing cluster. The compression can be executed on demand by an external agent and/or in a background mode by a storage operating system.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes receiving, from a client system of a first user, a request to post content to the online social network, identifying a plurality of second users, wherein each second user is associated with a privacy setting, and wherein a percentage of the identified second users have a privacy setting likely to make the content posted by the first user accessible to the second user, determining, for each identified second user, whether the content posted by the first user is accessible to the second user, and sending, to one or more client systems of one or more of the second users, respectively, instructions for presenting the content posted by the first user, wherein the content is sent to second users determined to be able to access the content and is not sent to second users determined to be not able to access the content.

Abstract: A hosted database service may receive a request to replicate data between two locations. Data may be replicated serially during an initial observation period. During the observation period, replication data may be analyzed to detect access patterns involving transaction delimiters and sequential or closely-timed access to data. Related tables may be assigned to replication groups. Replication data for the replication groups may be sent and processed in parallel. During parallel replication, effectiveness of the replication data may be monitored and the replication groups may be periodically readjusted.

Abstract: A tabulating system and method analyzes content posted and/or queried by an online community. The content can be searched based on a search filter executed at defined intervals, and the system can also reach through to locate and extract content from other remote systems. Community postings and queries can be tabulated to determine “hot topics” of interest to the community, to enhance the appeal and stickiness of a website. Furthermore, subscribers can also formulate and define their own custom searches to be run on their behalf to identify the existence of particular content on the website.
