Abstract: This invention provides a composition and method for countering the effects of alcohol consumption by a person. The composition provided is a specifically proportion combination of various vitamins, potassium, magnesium, milk thistle extract, amino acids, green tea extract, prickly pear extract, malic acid, and optionally Maqui berry extract, and various other additives for flavor and preservatives for a liquid formulation. The method includes orally administering the composition to a person under the influence of alcohol.
Abstract: A method for decreasing nicotine and other substance use in humans is disclosed. Tetrahydroberberine (THB) and its analogs, l-Tetrahydropalmatine (l-THP) and l-Stepholidine (l-SPD), are present in and can be isolated from several plants in the Magnoliidae superorder. According to the disclosed method, THB and its analogs are used to block nicotine-induced DA release, and modulate heterologous or homoeric expression of human nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChR) in humans. Specifically, THB exhibits bi-directory modulation of ?4?2-nAChR-mediated currents induced by nicotine. THB also shows predominant inhibition on homologously expressed ?7-nAChR function. Thus, according to the disclosed method, THB is used to simultaneous blockade midbrain DA system function, the brain reward center, and neuronal ?4?2- and ?7-nAChR function, the major nicotine targets in the brain. Therefore, THB and its analogs serve as a novel class of natural compounds to decrease nicotine dependence in humans.
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and preparations useful for reducing fat at a targeted area(s) on a human. The preparations comprise as an active ingredient an adipolysis enhancing (i.e., fat-melting) amount of an active ingredient, paeoniflorin (PF). The preparations may be provided as an injectable preparation or as a topically applied preparation, such as in the form of a crème or lotion. In topical preparations, the active ingredient paeoniflorin may be contained within nanospheres, such as albumin nanospheres. The PF-containing preparations may also include a permeant, such as azone. The method may be accompanied by the application of ultrasound to the area being treated prior to, during or after, or prior to, during, and after application of the paeoniflorin preparation to an area of the body in which fat reduction is desired.
Abstract: The compositions and methods described herein relate generally to therapeutic compositions containing Nerium species extracts, as well as to methods for treating diseases or disorders by administering the compositions, including compositions having a combination of Nerium species extract and glutathione. It further includes pharmaceutical compositions containing a combination of glutathione and a Nerium species extract. The compositions and methods disclosed may be useful for treating a variety of diseases or disorders including one or more cell-proliferative diseases or disorders, infections, and dementias.
