Patent number: 7337649Abstract: Adjustment of the tools (24) on the tool holder (10) in an Aerial Cam of a metal stamping press may be readily effected by opening the press to remove the upper die (14) from the stamping area and then removing the tool holder (10) on the driver (18) for controlled reciprocation simulating normal operation of the press. The tools (24) may then be adjusted in relation to the workpiece without the interference of the press dies (14 and 20).Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 2002Date of Patent: March 4, 2008Assignee: Anchor Lamina, Inc.Inventor: Erich D. Patent number: 7337645Abstract: A machine is disclosed for producing a deep drawn part and a shallow drawn part from sheet metal blanks in a single action draw press. A floating draw punch and a fixed draw punch are provided. The first draw die forms a part that is drawn over the fixed draw punch while the second blank does not begin forming the second part until the floating draw punch bottoms out on the bed of the press. The floating draw punch moves with the binder ring until the additional draw depth required to form the deep drawn part is essentially equal to the draw depth of a shallow drawn part. A process for producing multiple unattached sheet metal parts in a single action draw press is also disclosed wherein a first sheet metal part has a draw depth D1 and a second sheet metal part has a draw depth D2.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 2006Date of Patent: March 4, 2008Assignee: Ford Motor CompanyInventors: John W. Patent number: 7331208Abstract: A die cushion controller uses position control to position die cushion members for placement of a metal sheet. A pressing process starts and the upper die is lowered. When a position detector detects a position at which the upper die touches the sheet metal, the die cushion controller switches over from position control to pressure control and applies a preset pressure to the sheet metal. When the position detector detects that the upper die has risen to a preset position, the die cushion controller clears the positional deviation accumulated in position control to zero, then moves the die cushion members to preset positions and holds them there.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 2005Date of Patent: February 19, 2008Assignee: Fanuc LtdInventors: Kentaro Fujibayashi, Tetsuo Hishikawa, Keisuke Tsujikawa, Noboru Hirose

Patent number: 7325431Abstract: A clamping assembly for use with a bend arm of a tube bending machine. The assembly comprises a force multiplier linkage that applies a controlled and variable force to a workpiece. In one embodiment, the force multiplier linkage comprises a bearing member pivoted by an actuator acting on one end of a force multiplier arm that is attached to the bearing member. A pivot member supporting a drive link is fixedly attached to the bearing member at a location offset from the bearing member's pivot axis. The drive link pivots about the pivot member axis so that in cooperation with additional links it moves a bend arm slider. The drive link also pivots about the bearing member axis. As the bearing member is pivoted about its axis by the force multiplier arm, the drive link also pivots about the bearing member's axis providing the required force for application to the workpiece.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 2006Date of Patent: February 5, 2008Assignee: Eaton Leonard Robolix, Inc.Inventor: Zeno P. Patent number: 7322222Abstract: The sheet metal blank to be press molded comprises a product section (W1) and a grip section (W2) disposed on the periphery of the product section (W1). The press molding device performs press molding on the product section (W1) while gripping the grip section (W2) with the upper die (11) and the lower die (12). A bead (W3) comprising alternately disposed indented sections (A, C) and protruding sections (B, D) is press molded beforehand on the grip section (W2) by meshing the indented corners (6, 8) and protruding corners (3, 5) formed on the lower die (12) with corresponding indented corners (7, 9) and protruding corners (2, 4) formed on the upper die (11). Consequently a preferable constraining force without reducing the radius of the indented sections (A, C) and protruding sections (B, D), thereby protecting the galvanized surface of the sheet blank from chipping.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2005Date of Patent: January 29, 2008Assignee: Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hidemoto Kodaka, Naohisa Adachi

Patent number: 7316146Abstract: In the case of a rolling stand for producing rolled strip, which is provided with rolls which are axially displaceable with respect to one another, have a curved contour running over the entire effective barrel length and complement one another exclusively in a specific relative axial position of the rolls in the unloaded state, it is intended for the thickness profile of the roll gap over the active roll barrel length to be varied by axial displacement of the rolls provided with a roll barrel contour in relation to one another in such a way that a strip that is planar and free from undulations is obtained. This takes place by the profile of the barrel contour of the rolls of a pair of rolls being formed by a trigonometric function and the roll gap contour also being formed by a trigonometric function in dependence on the profile of the barrel contour and the position of the rolls within the axial displacement region.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 2002Date of Patent: January 8, 2008Assignee: Voest-Alpine Industrieanlagenbau GmbH & Co.Inventors: Alois Seilinger, Andeas Mayrhofer, Alexander Kainz

Patent number: 7293447Abstract: A control device for a die cushion mechanism, for carrying out force control with high accuracy and at a high speed. The control device for controlling the force generated by the die cushion mechanism utilizes a press working cycle which is repeatedly carried out. A correcting part of the control device corrects each deviation in one working cycle based on a time-series of deviation data in the just before press working cycle. By repeating this operation, the deviation between the detected value and the commanded value may be converged toward zero. Therefore, the deviation may become smaller than that of the conventional feedback control, whereby it is possible to respond to a change in the commanded value in a short time.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 2005Date of Patent: November 13, 2007Assignee: Fanuc LtdInventors: Yasusuke Iwashita, Tadashi Okita, Yukio Toyozawa, Naoto Sonoda

Patent number: 7293444Abstract: A bending apparatus for rod-shaped and tubular workpieces, includes a rotatable bending mandrel with a bending groove is provided with a wrinkle smoothener, which immediately precedes the bending mandrel, and two sliding jaws. In order to change the bending direction around the bending mandrel, the sliding jaws can be moved to the other side thereof. In doing so, the sliding jaw on the side of the bending mandrel is arranged freely rotatable on a support axis, which extends parallel to the axis of rotation of the bending mandrel and whose position relative to the bending mandrel can be shifted parallel to the feeding direction of the workpiece. The sliding jaw is provided such that the end of its forming groove facing towards the bending mandrel can be placed in contact with the bending groove by shifting the support axis and, thus, its forming groove tangentially joins said groove.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 2006Date of Patent: November 13, 2007Assignee: WAFIOS AktiengesellschaftInventors: Frank Hacker, Werner Maier, Patrik Schlund, Jürgen Wolf, Dietmar Sautter
