    Abstract: A workbench for an air compressor that includes a work surface as its top surface. The workbench is provided on wheels, such as caster wheels. The workbench may be closed by panels to attenuate sound. The panels may be removable to provide access to the compressor for maintenance or repair. A mechanism may be provided whereby a drain for the air compressor may be remotely actuated so that the compressor tank may be drained without opening the panels or having to reach under the workbench. The power feed to the motor may be used to power an outlet on the workbench when the motor is not running. The outlet may be provided on the outer shell of the workbench (e.g., on a panel on the outside of the workbench). A switch may be provided that routes the power to the outlet instead of the motor.

    Abstract: A glazing provided with an electric circuit includes an electrically conducting substrate and a terminal for making electrical connection thereto. The terminal is attached to the glazing by an adhesive, rather than solely by solder, and the electrical connection between the terminal and the substrate is provided by means other than, or additional to, physical contact between the terminal and the substrate. For instance, the adhesive may be electrically conducting, or a soldered joint may additionally be provided if the adhesive is electrically insulating, or of insufficient conductivity for the type of circuit in question. The adhesive may be pre-applied to the terminal, and may be a tack-free adhesive activated or cured by heat. The terminal may be in two parts, with the base part of a standardized design. The glazing is suitable for use in buildings, appliances or vehicles, especially automotive vehicles.

    Abstract: A pelvic splint for immobilizing and maintaining the annular integrity of the pelvis in the event of a pelvic ring fracture. The pelvic splint extends from about 5-10 cm above the iliac crest down to about the middle third of the thighs and substantially encircles the pelvis of the victim. The splint is then secured about the pelvis of the victim with two or more adjustable straps. The splint comprises a flexible casing having at least one pliable padding layer disposed therein and a plurality of flexible members individually disposed in pockets spaced apart about the casing. Once tightly secured around the pelvis by the adjustable straps, the splint conforms to the contours of the victim's pelvic area and stabilizes the pelvis by preventing lateral movement and constraining the pelvis in such a manner to preserve the annular integrity thereof. An associated method of stabilizing a pelvis is also disclosed.

    Abstract: An ankle-foot orthotic which permits plantarflexion and dorsiflexion while restricting inversion and eversion of the ankle. The orthotic includes a lower leg shell attachable to the lower leg of the wearer inside of the wearers trousers, a foot shell held in place inside the wearer's shoe, by the shoe itself, and a pair of mechanical joints attaching the lower leg shell to the foot shell. The mechanical joints are pivotally attached to the foot shell allowing rotation on an axis through the ankle joint, but are rigid perpendicular to the axis of the ankle joint thereby restricting sideways bending movement of the ankle. The mechanical joints have internal springs which allow translational movement of the lower leg shell relative to the foot shell providing greater comfort to the wearer by reducing rubbing and chafing of the user's leg while creating extra cushioning and shock absorption.

    Abstract: A brace hinge includes an upper and lower intermeshing gear members each having an elliptical gear intermeshed with the other and sandwiched by two very thin profile cover and support plates. The elliptical gears produce an eccentric motion which lends it self to following the natural motion of the human knee or other joints such as the elbow. The elliptical gear of one member has its radius extend toward the pivot axis of the other gear as the radius of the other elliptical gear retreats from the pivot axis of the one member. The magnitude and radial extent over which the ellipse extends can be varied. The combination of advancing and retreating radius gear members, relatively few gear teeth and sandwiched support plates eliminate any interruption to a smooth transition, provide superior load bearing ability and provide for extremely low friction.

In one embodiment, the actuator device is flexible member that passes around a guide to a position which can be gripped by the user. The locking device can be a cinching, ratcheting or clamping device, or a combination thereof, on the actuator device. In one embodiment, the folding arms include a coupling device for coupling the arms to a base in a sliding arrangement to enable the arms to slide along the base to a folded position. A blank is also disclosed that can be folded to form the cervical immobilizing device.
