  • Patent number: 6957391
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed whereby the look and feel of the OS/2 operating system is added to the Swing application program interface (API), in an enhanced version of the API, referred to herein as AWTSwing. A further disclosure is the creation of a thread-relative setLookAndFeel method, which only accepts calls from a particular thread to adopt a prescribed look and feel. This makes it possible for an application to have a look and feel distinct from that of the platform, or of other concurrently executing applications. This capability is not present in the conventional version of the Swing API, which treats look and feel settings as global.

  • Patent number: 6948134
Abstract: The present invention allows a user to graphically create a refreshable Web Query by selecting tabular data displayed in a Web page. When the user invokes the refreshable Web Query command, an Internet browser module is launched within a Web Query dialog box open in the spreadsheet program. The user then graphically selects at least one instance of tabular data to import to the spreadsheet program. The invention also makes Web queries more accessible to a user and is embedded in a software utility, known as a Web Query Smart Tag (WQST) utility. The WQST utility allows a user to create Web queries directly from an Internet browser module in one of several methods. The first method, known as a “Copy-Paste Web Query,” begins when a user pastes the tabular data into the spreadsheet program and determines whether the Web Query command should be presented to the user. If the decision is made to present the Web Query command to the user, a Web Query option appears on a special drop-down menu.

  • Patent number: 6948125
Abstract: The implementation of the invention involves a conventional display window and a system for displaying a portion of said hierarchical tree within the borders of the window in combination with an implementation enabling a user to expand each nested displayed category into a displayed list of items in said category, and to collapse said displayed list back to each displayed category. There are means for scrolling said displayed hierarchy through said window. This invention provides for a set of displayed indicators, each representing a hidden expanded category in the hierarchical chain of a list of items displayed within said window. There is a further implementation associated with each displayed indicator enabling a user to select the indicator to collapse the hidden category represented by said indicator and thereby enable the display of the collapsed category within said window.

  • Patent number: 6938210
Abstract: A computer-based lecture recording and reproducing method includes: executing a lecture recording and reproducing pragram; recording the lecture, including: storing information from an information inputting unit and information relating to the input information in a memory, with time information and storing voice information in the memory; writing pre-stored information in a lecture file and the input information on an assigned area in the memory, with a graphic tool by using the pre-stored information and the relating information so as to be equal to a configuration displayed on a screen; and displaying the written information on the screen; and reproducing the lecture, including: storing the lecture file information and the related information in the memory; writing the lecture file information on the assigned area in the memory, with the graphic tool by using the related information; and displaying the written information on the screen and outputting the voice information.

  • Patent number: 6931596
Abstract: A system having a video display screen that provides video to a user. The position of the display screen is adjustable based upon the location of the user with respect to the display screen. The system includes at least one image capturing device trainable on a viewing region of the display screen and coupled to a control unit having image recognition software. The image recognition software identifies the user in an image generated by the image capturing device. The software of the control unit also generates at least one measurement of the position of the user based upon the detection of the user in the image.

  • Patent number: 6925607
Abstract: A method for consolidating the information from multiple information sources so as to provide a uniform set of screens for an agent. All of the information sources are automatically linked in a coherent manner, which is defined by the user. The provision of an information item into a field automatically accesses user-specified information items from the various information sources. The station (10) receives (501) the initial information item and then sends (503) this information item to the sources specified by the information field, receives additional information items from these sources, and displays or presents the information items received in any desired media type.

  • Patent number: 6918093
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed whereby the normal mechanism for color inheritance for the Swing application program interface (API) is altered to provide consistency with legacy Java applications in which the graphical user interface (GUI) is based on the abstract windowing toolkit (AWT) in legacy applications. According to the system and method disclosed herein, if the background color of a GUI object (such as a button) is explicitly declared, the object will be displayed with that color. Otherwise, the object inherits the background color defined by global settings in the Swing API. If no such settings are in effect, the object inherits the background color of its parent (as is the case in legacy AWT-based applications). This modification is available in an extension to Swing, referred to herein as AWTSwing.

  • Patent number: 6845488
Abstract: A method for displaying information, expressed as a sequence of alphanumeric characters, on a screen having a sequence of entry lines. Where a designated entry includes more than one line of characters: (1) one or more additional lines, associated with that entry, is added to receive the additional characters and/or (2) a font characteristic (font type, font size, etc.) or other display characteristic is changed to provide display of a larger number of characters on that entry line. A non-designated entry is allocated at most one line on a display. A non-designated entry that includes more than one line of characters has a distinguishable symbol appended.
