  • Patent number: 10123328
Abstract: A communication device is configured to operate in a first wireless communication network that utilizes a communication protocol developed for use in frequency bands that are licensed by a government entity for wireless communication applications. The communication device determines whether one or more communication channels in an unlicensed frequency band are not being utilized by any second wireless communication networks, wherein the government entity does not require licenses to use the unlicensed frequency band. In response to determining that one or more communication channels in the unlicensed frequency band are not being utilized by any second wireless communication networks, the communication device selects a set of one or more communication channels in the one or more communication channels for use by the first wireless communication network, and utilizes the set of one or more communication channels for communications in the first wireless communication network.

  • Patent number: 10104642
Abstract: Broadcasts from beacon devices each of which is disposed in a known different physical location within a venue are controlled. Scheduling information for events scheduled to take place at the venue may be collected from calendar management sources and analyzed. Notification of an emergent event associated with the venue or its geographic location may also be received from emergent event notification sources and analyzed. The result of these analyses and the knowledge of the physical location of each of the beacon devices are used to generate a set of broadcast rules for each of the beacon devices, where these rules specify one or more beacon signals to be periodically broadcast by the beacon device and the timing by which these signals are to be broadcast. For each of the beacon devices, the set of broadcast rules for the beacon device is downloaded to the beacon device.

  • Patent number: 9986519
Abstract: A circuit includes a processor to store a beacon timestamp generated from a wireless network. An output port controlled by the processor causes an interrupt that initiates a capture of a link layer timestamp relative to the beacon timestamp. An input port on the processor receives the link layer time stamp. A synchronizer captures a processor timestamp relative to the beacon timestamp and determines a time offset value relative to the received link layer time stamp by computing a difference between the processor timestamp and the link layer timestamp. The time offset value is combined with the processor timestamp to synchronize the processor with respect to the beacon timestamp.

  • Patent number: 9917682
Abstract: The embodiments relate to a method and a base station (110) for interference management in a cellular network (100) employing Space-Division uplink (UL) downlink (DL) Duplexing (SDD). The base station (110) assigns a plurality of Remote Radio Units (RRU) as Tx RRUs operable to dedicatedly transmit downlink signals to a plurality of UEs and Rx RRUs operable to dedicatedly receive uplink signals from the plurality of UEs at the same frequency band and same time as the transmission of the Tx RRUs. The base station then suppresses the interference caused by simultaneous transmission on the same frequency band by using a Tx spatial beamforming weighting matrix and a Rx spatial beamforming weighting matrix. In addition, the base station may perform cross-talk cancellation on the residual interference contained in the received signals by using the knowledge of the downlink traffic data.

  • Patent number: 9910658
Abstract: A system and apparatus for distributing updates to portable computing device are disclosed. A number of portable computing devices to receive update data is determined and a first number of invitations to update are transmitted to a subset of the portable computing devices to receive update data during a first event. Data describing network usage during the first event is received and the available network bandwidth is determined Based on the available network bandwidth, the size of the update data and network speed, a second number of invitations to update for transmission during a second event is determined In one embodiment, the available network bandwidth accounts for a threshold bandwidth and the bandwidth being used. This allows dynamic modification of the number of invitations based on available network bandwidth while allowing bandwidth usage to remain below the threshold bandwidth.

  • Patent number: 9877265
Abstract: A coding approach for a robust and flexible network communication protocol is described. By using coding, it is possible to eliminate the need to track packet identities, and hence, it is possible to reduce coordination overhead associated with many conventional protocols. The method and system described herein takes advantage of multiple paths, interfaces, mediums, servers, and storage locations available in a network. The proposed protocol allows quick response to congestion by load balancing over different network resources. The method also enables soft vertical hand-overs across heterogeneous networks. In one embodiment, a media file is divided into chunks and transmitted using a transport protocol tailored to meet delay requirements of media streaming applications. Also described are different coding strategies for chunk delivery based upon an urgency level of each chunk.
