  • Patent number: 5118984
Abstract: A metal layer of not more than 2.0 .mu.m thick is formed on a base, containing nickel as the main ingredient and a reducing agent such as silicon and magnesium, by depositing tungsten by an electron beam under heating in a vacuum. The base is heat treated in a hydrogen atmosphere at 800.degree. to 1,100.degree. C. An emissive material layer, containing an alkali earth metal oxide and 0.01 to 25 wt % of a rare earth metal oxide, the alkali earth metal oxide containing at least barium oxide, is formed on the metal layer. Thus, life characteristics of the cathode, especially during the operation at a high current density such as not less than 2A/cm.sub.2, are greatly enhanced.

  • Patent number: 5107173
Abstract: A high-quality projection cathode ray tube is for projecting the image displayed on a fluorescent surface, as an enlarged image on a screen in front of the fluorescent surface through a projection lens projection lens disposed at a given distance ahead. On the inner surface of a face panel, a multilayer optical interference film including optical thin film layers of alternately superimposed high refractive and low refracte index materials is provided. The outermost surface of the multilayer optical interference film is coated with a film of an inorganic material such as silicon dioxide which is optically transparent and stable with respect to the impact of an electron beam. The thickness of the transparent film is not less than 1.0 .mu.m. Even an electron beam having a high energy which has passed through the gaps of the phosphor layer loses the energy in this protective film.

  • Patent number: 5101168
Abstract: An electron gun emits a steady stream of electrons. The electrons pass to a modulating cavity which accelerates some of the electrons and decelerates other electrons in a particular timed relationship so that the electrons become periodically bunched. The bunched electrons are then accelerated in an accelerator to a constant speed such as the speed of light to maintain the bunching of the electrons and to substantially increase the energy of the electrons. The kinetic energy in the bunches of electrons is then converted to microwave energy. The conversion may occur in one output cavity or in a series of output cavities. Apparatus such as described above may be connected in parallel to further increase the output microwave energy.

  • Patent number: 5095242
Abstract: In a preferred embodiment, a resistor spark plug having a low level of RFI emissions, achieved by means of reducing the capacitances within the spark plug, so that the resistor in the spark plug is more effective. Reduction of the capacitances is accomplished by providing a resistor of relatively narrow diameter, providing a clearance space between the shell of the spark plug and the portion of the insulator where the resistor is located, and by providing an extended shell around the insulator above where the resistor is located. The improved effectiveness of the resistor reduces the energy transferred across the spark gap and, therefore, reduces erosion of the electrodes.

  • Patent number: 5095243
Abstract: Electrons emitted from a photocathode in response to incident X-rays are accelerated and focused onto a microchannel plate (MCP). The electrons multiplied by the MCP are converted into a visible light image by a phosphor screen. An envelope tube is curved at a halfway portion, and the electrons are deflected by a deflection coil so as to travel along the curved envelope tube and enter the MCP. Even if X-rays are transmitted from the photocathode, they do not enter the MCP directly and hardly contribute to the background noise. A limiting aperture ring may further be employed to prevent the X-rays reflected by the inside wall of the envelope tube from entering the MCP.

  • Patent number: 5089743
Abstract: A cathode ray tube for producing images in red, green or blue is used for a projection type television set. A multi-layered interference filter is disposed between a face glass and a fluroescent layer so as to gather light beams from the fluorescent layer. The innermost layer of the interference layer is made of a high refractive index material such as tantalum pentaoxide which is resistant to hydrofluoric acid, so that a fluorescent material can be applied as efficiently as possible. The innermost layer of the interference filter has the optical distance expressed by the equation:nd=(2m+1).lambda..sub.h /4.lambda..sub.h =.lambda.+.lambda..sub.pwhere n stands for the refractive index of the layer, d stands for thickness of the layer, m stands for an integer larger than 0, .lambda..sub.h is the cutoff wavelength of the optical spectrum transmissitivity of the multi-layered interference film for yielding a transmissivity of fifty percent and .lambda..sub.p is 20 to 100 nm.
