  • Patent number: 9328682
Abstract: The present invention relates to a regulating strategy for a special catalytic converter for exhaust-gas aftertreatment. The catalytic converter concept is distinguished in that at least two nitrogen oxide storage catalytic converters are used in the exhaust section of a vehicle. The first, possibly close-coupled unit is followed by one or more nitrogen oxide storage catalytic converters, which are possibly situated in the underbody of the vehicle. The nitrogen oxide storage catalytic converters are then regenerated as a function of the exceedance of nitrogen oxide threshold vales downstream thereof.

  • Patent number: 9328654
Abstract: The invention relates to engine construction, in particular to systems for regulating internal combustion engines. The invention makes it possible to reduce the toxicity of exhaust gases. A four-stroke reciprocating internal combustion engine is equipped with a vacuum valve. During the discharging of the exhaust gases, a vacuum pump pumps combustion products out of the cylinder via the vacuum valve. First of all, a discharge valve is opened, and the vacuum valve is opened later, after complete (or partial) closing of the discharge valve, and the vacuum valve is closed later on or at the same time as an inlet valve opens. The vacuum valve is situated in the exhaust pipe, and an additional shut-off valve is mounted downstream of said vacuum valve, along the path of the exhaust gases, the shut-off valve connecting the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold or disconnecting the exhaust pipe therefrom.

  • Patent number: 9328646
Abstract: A method is provided for monitoring an emission device coupled to an engine. In one example approach, the method comprises: following a deceleration fuel shut-off duration, indicating degradation of the emission device based on an amount of rich products required to cause a sensor to become richer than a threshold. The amount of rich products required may be correlated to an amount of oxygen stored in the emission device. The indication of emission device degradation may be further based on air mass and temperature during delivery of the required rich products.

  • Patent number: 9316137
Abstract: A method of operating a diesel engine 10 having LNT 11 and SCR 13 aftertreatment devices arranged in series to receive exhaust gas from the engine is disclosed in which the engine is operated in a rich early injection mode to generate ammonia in the LNT for storage in the SCR located downstream from the LNT. This reduces the amount of soot produced permitting longer operation of the engine in rich early injection mode and further may reduce the use of PGM material in the LNT and increase the amount of ammonia for use in the SCR.

  • Patent number: 9302886
Abstract: An elevator door assembly includes car and hoistway door subassemblies. The car door subassembly includes: a car door, a door mover, and first and second vanes supported for movement relative to the car door. The hoistway door subassembly includes: a hoistway door; a locking member that selectively locks the hoistway door; and a coupler member associated with the locking member. When the car door is adjacent the hoistway door: the first vane moves into contact with the coupler member and causes the locking member to move into an unlocked position, prior to movement of the car and hoistway doors; and the second vane is retained in a non-blocking position by the coupler member. When the car door is not adjacent the hoistway door, movement of the car door toward the open position moves the second vane into a blocking position in which further movement of the car door is inhibited.

  • Patent number: 9291143
Abstract: A spark ignition internal combustion engine includes an exhaust gas reflux device capable of refluxing exhaust gas having passed through a catalyst for exhaust gas purification to an intake passage, an ignition timing control means for setting an ignition timing retard amount capable of preventing knocking according to a NOx concentration in the exhaust gas while the exhaust gas is refluxed, a NOx concentration estimation means for estimating the NOx concentration in the exhaust gas, and a purification performance reduction determination means for determining a reduction in purification performance of the catalyst. The ignition timing control means sets the ignition timing retard amount based on the NOx concentration in the exhaust gas before passage through the catalyst if the purification performance reduction determination means determines that the purification performance of the catalyst has been reduced to a state set in advance.
