  • Patent number: 9234959
Abstract: A method for providing position determination assisting data comprises repetitions of establishing (210) of a cell relation configuration for a user equipment and performing (212) of a high-precision position determination for the user equipment. Results of the determinations belonging to the same cell relation configuration are clustered (214) in separate clustered results. An area definition is associated (220) with the clustered results by enclosing (221) the clustered results by a polygon, shrinking (222) the polygon by moving corners towards a contraction point and defining (223) the area definition as a shrunk polygon comprising a predetermined fraction of the clustered results. The contraction point is selected to be situated within the clustered results. The method also comprises creating (230) of position determination assisting data comprising a relation between the cell relation configurations and the associated area definitions.

  • Patent number: 9215635
Abstract: During a period of parallel-like radio communication with two or more first base stations, the first base station designates a second base station correlated with one of the two or more first base stations, and temporarily suspends the radio communication in accordance with a first communications standard to issue, to a mobile station, a request of measurement for the designated second base station. The first base station receives a result of the measurement for the designated second base station. The first base station notifies the mobile station of a handover from the first communications standard to a second communications standard, and also notifies the mobile station of a request for starting a coordination mode in which the two or more second base stations including the designated second base station establish communication with the mobile station in coordination with each other.

  • Patent number: 9203575
Abstract: A base station performs an association between frequency range and combinations of a plurality of base stations including an local base station to notify a terminal of the association. According to the notified association, the terminal, for each frequency, calculates quality of communication with one base station or quality of communication with the combination of the plurality of base stations. The base station and the control station determine the base station/the plurality of base stations that communicate with the terminal, the wireless resource and the transmission scheme, based on the result. Further, the base station selects whether to notify an entirety of or a part of the association to the terminal using positional information of the terminal. Since the association information that is unnecessary for the terminal is not communicated, it is possible to further lighten the load of control.

  • Patent number: 9196028
Abstract: Methods employ sensors in portable devices (e.g., smartphones) both to sense content information (e.g., audio and imagery) and context information. Device processing is desirably dependent on both. For example, some embodiments activate certain processor intensive operations (e.g., content recognition) based on classification of sensed content and context. The context can control the location where information produced from such operations is stored, or control an alert signal indicating, e.g., that sensed speech is being transcribed. Some arrangements post sensor data collected by one device to a cloud repository, for access and processing by other devices. Multiple devices can collaborate in collecting and processing data, to exploit advantages each may have (e.g., in location, processing ability, social network resources, etc.). A great many other features and arrangements are also detailed.

  • Patent number: 9140775
Abstract: Methods and apparatus enabling a wireless network to generate data that can be used by a receiver (e.g., UE) to resolve the contributions of individual transmitters, such as to determine its location without resort to external devices such as GPS satellites. In one embodiment, the wireless network comprises a single frequency network (SFN), and a unique base station identifier is embedded within the data, and encoded in a manner which allows the UE to calculate path characteristics (such as path latency, and Direction of Arrival) to triangulate its position. In one variant, the data encoding comprises weighting frames of data from different base stations using an orthogonal matrix. Advantageously, the encoding and embedded identifier are also transparent to legacy UE, thereby allowing for implementation with no infrastructure or UE modifications other than software. Network and user apparatus implementing these methodologies, and methods of doing business, are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 9119135
Abstract: A user terminal receives at least one signal with information depending on a location of the user terminal. The user terminal processes the at least one signal for providing data related to the location while it is in a cell of an accessible private base station and saves the data as a reference data. After that, the user terminal receives at least one signal with information depending on the location of the user terminal and a broadcast from a private base station. The user terminal processes the at least one signal for providing data related to a location of the user terminal and compares the data and a reference data with each other. The controller enables a contact to the private base station if the data and the reference data match each other and, otherwise, disables a contact to the private base station.

  • Patent number: 9107042
Abstract: Methods and systems for communication interception that apply joint processing to signals and information obtained from a satellite communication network and from a cellular communication network. A processing unit processes intercepted signals from the satellite and cellular networks using shared hardware. The processing unit extracts information related to target users from communication sessions conducted by the target users in the satellite and cellular networks. The processing unit may store this information in a single data structure, and in particular correlate information pertaining to the same target user in the two networks. The processing unit may correlate the different identifiers used by the target user in the different networks, and use this correlation to enhance the tracking of this user.

  • Patent number: 9088925
Abstract: A method and system to facilitate handoff of user equipment (UE) back to the same wireless network that was earlier serving the UE. When the UE is being served by a first wireless network and is going to be handed off to a second wireless network, the second wireless network may receive and store an identifier of the first wireless network. In turn, when the UE is going to hand off from the second wireless network (e.g., due to low signal strength or preference for another air interface protocol), the second wireless network may then transmit the identifier of the first wireless network to the UE, to cause the UE hand off back to the first wireless network rather than to some other network.
