  • Patent number: 10129167
Abstract: A method to schedule multiple traffic flows through a multiplexer server to provide fairness while minimizing the sizes of the associated queues, is proposed. The multiplexer server minimizes a quantity called the maximum Normalized Service Lag for each traffic flow. In each time-slot, the normalized service lag of every traffic flow may be updated by adding the normalized lag increment value, whether or not there is a packet in the queue associated with the flow. In each time-slot, a multiplexer server selects a traffic flow to service with an available packet and with the maximum normalized service lag. When the traffic rate requested by each traffic flow is stable, the multiplexer server schedule may repeat periodically. Efficient methods to compute periodic schedules are proposed. The methods can be applied to packet-switched Internet routers to achieve reduced queue sizes and delay.

  • Patent number: 10116506
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention disclose a method for upgrading a version of a network device and a device. A specific solution is: configuring a forwarding plane of the network device to be a first forwarding plane and a second forwarding plane; performing, in the first forwarding plane, sampling on forwarded packets by using a preset sampling ratio, to obtain a sample packet; forwarding, by the second forwarding plane, the sample packet in a broadcast manner, to learn a MAC address; and when a quantity of MAC addresses learned by the second forwarding plane reaches a preset threshold, performing upgrade so that the second forwarding plane is used for packet forwarding of the network device. The technical solution can effectively avoid generation of a large quantity of broadcast packets during a version upgrade process, can help reduce network bandwidth that is excessively occupied, and avoid network congestion.

  • Patent number: 10084687
Abstract: A method of forwarding packets by a physical network switch is provided. The method assigns egress ports that connect the network switch to each particular next hop to a weighted-cost multipathing (WCMP) group associated with the particular next hop. The method assigns weights to each egress port in each WCMP group according to the capacity of each path that connects the egress port to the next hop associated with the WCMP group and normalizes the weights over a range of values. For each packet received at the network switch, the method identifies the WCMP group associated with a next hop destination of the packet. The method calculates a hash value of a set of fields in the packet header and uses the hash value to perform a range lookup in the identified WCMP group to select an egress port for forwarding the packet to the next hop.

  • Patent number: 10080109
Abstract: A method of supporting group communication over LTE MBMS is provided. A UE first establishes a unicast Evolved Packet Service (EPS) bearer in an LTE network for group communication. The UE belongs to a communication group having a communication group ID. The UE receives access information from the network for monitoring downlink (DL) multicast traffic of the DL group communication based on a multicast decision. The UE is then ready for monitoring a multicast Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS) bearer for receiving the DL multicast traffic. In one embodiment, The UE requests to switch the DL multicast traffic from the multicast MBMS bearer to the unicast EPS bearer upon detecting that the UE is approaching an MBMS coverage boundary. In another embodiment, the UE transmits an indication of preferred target cells to the network before performing a handover and thereby maintaining multicast service continuity of the group communication.
