Abstract: This invention is an improvement over the triangularly shaped tow bar which has the hitch connected to a towing vehicle at the apex of the triangle and the base connected to the towed vehicle with two arms extending from the apex to the towed vehicle. The improvements in the tow bar consist of constructing each of the arms so that they can be telescoped during the connecting or disconnecting phases of the tow bar and also can be automatically locked in the extended position when the towing vehicle begins to pull the towed vehicle. The telescoping portion of each of the arms on the tow bar has attached ball joint connectors at the extremity where the tow bar arms can attach to pins on a base plate, a second part of this invention to be described hereafter. These ball or swivel joints allow the tow bar to be attached or detached with ease regardless of the horizontal position of the tow bar or angle of the towed vehicle in relation to the tow bar arms.
