Abstract: Processing data for a display including pixels, each pixel having color sub-pixels, comprises receiving pixel data, and converting the pixel data to sub-pixel rendered data. In one embodiment, the conversion generates the sub-pixel rendered data for a sub-pixel arrangement including alternating red and green sub-pixels on at least one of a horizontal and vertical axis. Processing the pixel data for the display also includes correcting the sub-pixel rendered data if a condition exists and outputting the sub-pixel rendered data.

  • Patent number: 7898524
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention enable an optical device to track on a diffusing surface over which a transparent and/or translucent and/or optically smooth surface is placed. Some embodiments are directed towards detecting when an optical device is lifted off the surface it was resting on. Embodiments also include a sensing system that detects the z distance (distance to the tracking surface) and improves image quality by improving the effectiveness of the optical sensor subsystem and/or the illumination subsystem at the detected z distance. Other embodiments include a system and method that enables an optical device to track on a transparent and/or translucent and/or optically smooth surface alone. This may involve dark-field imaging based on certain features (e.g., dirt) already present on the transparent surface. Alternately, this may involve creating features such as droplets, spreading dirt residue, and creating thermal spots, which can be used for tracking.

  • Patent number: 7884838
Abstract: The invention discloses a gamma adjusting apparatus for adjusting the gray level of each pixel of an image signal. The gamma adjusting apparatus includes a measuring unit, a first processing unit, a second processing unit, and a third processing unit. The measuring unit measures the lightness of N reference gray levels. The first processing unit normalizes the lightness of the N reference gray levels to generate N normalized reference values. The second processing unit compares the N normalized reference values with a standard gamma curve to generate N adjusted gray levels. According to the N reference gray levels and the N adjusted gray levels, the third processing unit sets an adjusting rule. According to the adjusting rule, the gamma adjusting apparatus is capable of adjusting the gray level of each pixel of the image signal to comply with the standard gamma curve.

  • Patent number: 7864202
Abstract: A method of determining implied sample areas for each data point of each color in a source pixel data specified in a first sub-pixel format is used for sub-pixel rendering an image on a display specified in a second sub-pixel format. Each of the first and second sub-pixel formats comprises a plurality of colored sub-pixels. The method comprises determining a geometric center of each colored sub-pixel of the first format to define a sampling point; and defining each implied sample area by forming lines that are substantially equidistant between the sampling point of one colored sub-pixel and the sampling point of another neighboring same color colored sub-pixel. A similar technique may be used for determining resample areas for computing color values for rendering an image specified in a first sub-pixel format on a display substantially comprising a plurality of colored sub-pixels arranged in a second sub-pixel format.

  • Patent number: 7859488
Abstract: The present invention provides a semiconductor device which can prevent a current from flowing into a display element at a signal writing operation, without increasing power consumption and without changing a potential of a power supply for supplying a current to a load in each row. When a predetermined current is supplied to a transistor to set a gate-source voltage of the transistor, a potential of a gate terminal of the transistor is adjusted so as to prevent a current from flowing into a load which is connected to a source terminal of the transistor. Thus, a potential of a wire connected to the gate terminal of the transistor is made different from that of a wire connected to a drain terminal of the transistor. At that time, an operation of a transistor is shifted so as to allow a large amount of current to flow, and influences by intersection capacitance parasitic to a wire or the like or wire resistance are hardly caused, and a set operation is conducted quickly.

  • Patent number: 7847761
Abstract: In an embodiment of the present invention, for an active-matrix organic EL display in which pixel circuits each including five transistors and one capacitor are two-dimensionally arranged in rows and columns, the timing of transition of a drive signal DS from the “H” level to the “L” level is brought close to the timing of transition of a write signal WS from the “L” level to the “H” level. Furthermore, the active period of a first auto-zero signal AZ1 is overlapped with the active period of the write signal WS. This timing relationship achieves suppression of variation in the source voltage and gate voltage of a drive transistor due to leakage currents, in addition to realization of a function to compensate variation in the characteristic of an organic EL element and a function to compensate variation in the threshold voltage Vth of the drive transistor with a small number of components. Thus, a uniform image quality free from image unevenness can be achieved.

  • Patent number: 7825922
Abstract: A user is provided with guidelines that are temporarily displayed with content, in order to assist the user in accurately writing electronic ink. The guidelines may appear when the user moves a writing tool close to a display and writing surface. Alternately, the guidelines may appear after the user has begun to write electronic ink, so that the guidelines can correspond to the angle at which the user is writing, the size of the user's handwriting, or both. As the user writes the electronic ink onto the writing surface, the handwritten electronic ink is added to the content being rendered on the display. After the user has finished writing electronic ink and moves the writing tool away from the writing surface, the guidelines may be deleted. Accordingly, the user can employ the temporary guidelines without the guidelines themselves becoming a permanent part of the content.
