  • Patent number: 4064989
Abstract: A shipping carton construction comprising a closed carton containing a plurality of containers. The containers upstand in the carton in side-by-side abutting positions and are arranged in groups with a packaging device for each group. The packaging device is formed from a resilient deformable plastics sheet material in the shape of a plurality of bands arranged in two adjacent rows. The bands are circumferentially applied about the individual containers to separate and cushion the individual containers in a spaced-apart relationship so that in transport and handling, containers having a high finish are not scratched or marred.

  • Patent number: 4064990
Abstract: A package containing a number of folds of decorative wrapping paper. Each fold is formed of at least one sheet of decorative wrapping paper which is folded so that it forms a fold having a front panel and a rear panel connected along a backbone. The front panels of the various folds, comprising the package, are of different lengths. In the package, the folds are nested one inside another with the backbones next to one another, and the front panels are arranged with panels of greater lengths located inwardly of panels of shorter length so that all of the front panels are visible when the folds are nested in the package. In one form of package having two nests of folds, the nests are positioned so that the rear panels of the folds of one nest are against the rear panels of the folds of the other nest and the backbones of the folds of the respective nests are located at opposite ends of the package. In this arrangement, the front panels of all of the folds of both nests are visible.

  • Patent number: 4058211
Abstract: One or more lamp bulbs are protectively packaged by inserting them into an open-ended wrapper of single-faced corrugated paperboard and slip-fitting the resulting lamp pack into an open-ended boxboard sleeve that overlies and closes the open ends of the wrapper. The sleeve has oppositely disposed corner portions with inwardly bowed flexible junctures of such curvature that they exert a wedging force on the associated end edges of the inserted wrapper. The resulting clamping action frictionally locks the wrapper and the contained lamp bulbs within the boxboard sleeve despite the smooth surfaces of the latter.

  • Patent number: 4058296
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for mixing two or more fluids together in a desired ratio. The mixing apparatus includes primary and secondary conduits, one extending from a source of a first fluid and the other extending from a source of a second fluid, and a diversion conduit extending between the primary and secondary conduits and through which a selected amount of the first fluid will be diverted from the primary conduit. An eductor, position in the primary conduit, is connected to the secondary conduit so that the second fluid will be drawn from a source and will intermix with a selected flow of first fluid through the diversion conduit prior to entering the eductor. Upon entering the eductor the premixed fluids combine with the first fluid flowing through the eductor from the primary conduit. The amount of premixed fluids which combines with the first fluid in the eductor is dependent upon the flow of first fluid in the primary conduit through the eductor.

  • Patent number: 4057143
Abstract: In order to form a shipping carton, the wrapper has adhesive such as a hot melt glue applied along the two side edges. Thereafter, the wrapper is circumferentially wrapped about the loaded reel to adhere the wrapper to the protruding ears on the end boards while leaving an end of the wrapper project. Next, this projecting edge of the wrapper is provided with a similar adhesive and folded against the opposite edge of the wrapper in overlapping relationship. At this time, suction is applied against the side wall of the carton to support the overlapped edge of the wrapper against the overlapping edge. The flat seam formed by the overlapped edges of the wrapper may be disposed at a corner of the carton or along a side of the carton. The end flaps of any carton may also be adhesively secured together by the described technique by holding one portion under suction while the other portion is pressed against the held portion.

  • Patent number: 4055250
Abstract: A one piece folding blank has front, side and rear panel groups that each fold towards a central floor panel to form a vehicle simulating display. A tab lock formed in the front panel engages an underlying portion of the side panels that is spaced from the floor panel to secure the front panel in the folded, vehicle simulating position. When folded, the panel groups form the walls of a box-like rear container portion of the display with at least the side and rear walls having a double wall construction. In one embodiment, the rear container portion is secured in the folded condition by locking tabs and tuck flaps formed on the periphery of the panel groups that engage, respectively, slots formed in the floor panel and spacings between the double wall panels.

  • Patent number: 4054203
Abstract: A carton and blank for making same are provided wherein such carton is particularly adapted to contain a bottle having a lower main body and an upwardly extending elongated neck and the carton has a reinforcing flap in the upper portion thereof with such reinforcing flap having opposed supporting side edges disposed in spaced relation beneath a top panel of the carton enabling such flap to serve as a horizontal reinforcement against collapse of the carton sides upon squeezing such sides toward each other during grasping of the carton for lifting and carrying purposes. The reinforcing flap is also such that upon disposing an unshrunk sealing sleeve around the upper portion of the neck and a closure for the bottle such flap may be placed in its final position and the carton closed immediately without sliding or damaging the unshrunk sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4050624
Abstract: A one-piece box blank is cut from a single sheet with creases and score lines dividing the box blank into a receptacle section, a hinge section and a cover section. The cover and receptacle sections both have side and front flaps. The front flaps and hinge section are proportioned such that the receptacle front flap is not totally overlapped by the cover front flap when the box is closed. The depth of the receptacle side flaps adjacent the hinge section is less than the depth of the hinge section. The spaced, scored fold lines separating the side flaps from the cover and the receptacle sections are straight lines, converging from the front flap of the cover to the front flap of the receptacle. If the box is wrapped corner notches are preferably cut in both the one-piece box blank and in a one-piece wrap. The wrap and the blank are combined as they pass through a conventional wrapping machine.
