  • Patent number: 4900208
Abstract: A fastener for insulated roofing comprises a non-metallic, screw-threaded shank, having a penetrating point at one end of the shank and a transverse plate carried at the other end of the shank. The shank and transverse plate are preferably integrally method out of a polyetherimide resin formulation which has a tensile strength of at least 15,000 psi. as tested by ASTM D638. Such a fastener has a great advantage in terms of cost and lack of corrodability, while still exhibiting the required strength. Also, a universal driver socket is provided.

  • Patent number: 4898505
Abstract: An expansion dowel assembly includes an axially extending anchor bolt and an expansion sleeve laterally enclosing the bolt. At its leading end, the anchor bolt has an expansion cone displaceable opposite to the insertion direction of the dowel assembly relative to a conically shaped expansion region at the leading end of the sleeve. Initially, the cone angle of the expansion cone is larger than the cone angle of the expansion section of the sleeve. A circumferentially extending annular bead is located on the outer circumferential periphery of the expansion region. The expansion region is slotted in the axial direction and its wall thickness decreases in the circumferential direction toward the slots. At the outset of the sleeve expansion, it is greatly widened and the annular bead is pressed into the surface of the borehole in which the dowel assembly is inserted.

  • Patent number: 4890467
Abstract: This invention is directed at a lock actuated switch which has a housing and a lock cylinder. The housing includes a terminal housing portion and a support portion. The support portion has a wall that defines a longitudinal bore and that has an inner surface with V shaped notches formed therein. The V shaped notches may be formed by three triangular surfaces which meet at their apices. The longitudinal bore extends through the terminal housing portion and the wall has means of retaining a series of fixed contacts that have arced terminal ends. The lock cylinder includes a terminal end, a longitudinal second bore and a body portion. Tumbler slots are formed in the body portion in spaced relation to each other. One of the tumbler slots has a spring loaded detent tumbler mounted therein. As the lock cylinder is moved axially into the housing, the detent tumbler rides over one of the V shaped notches compressing the spring until the detent tumbler passes over the V shaped notch and comes to rest.

  • Patent number: 4890966
Abstract: A plastic clip for securing a panel or like member to a stud or like securement member is disclosed. The clip comprises a first member having a head portion having a through hole and a pair of locking portions extending from the head portion and capable of being pivoted relative to the head portion and a second member having an insertion portion to be inserted through the through hole and a locking portion to be locked to the securement member. By inserting the insertion portion of the second member into the through hole of the first member after insertion of the pair of locking portions of the first member through a mounting hole of the member to be secured, the pair of locking portions are pivoted away from each other so as to clamp the member to be secured. In this state, the locking portion of the second member is secured to the securement member, thus securing the member to be secured to the securement member.

  • Patent number: 4889457
Abstract: A load indicator partly collapses under a predetermined compressive load to provide visual and tactile indications that such predetermined load has been reached or exceeded. The indicator has a longitudinal axis, opposite ends, an outer surface and a central cylindrical hole opening outwardly at the opposite ends. A circumferential groove in the outer surface intermediate the ends divides the indicator into first and second integral parts that move toward one another under a predetermined compressive load by collapsing the groove. A recess surrounds the hole at one end of the indicator so that the surface area of the one end is substantially smaller, and spaced outwardly further from the longitudinal axis, than the surface area of the other end.

  • Patent number: 4886405
Abstract: A device for bolting an article to a wall board, using a pre-drilled hole in the wall, is disclosed. The device comprises a volt, and an anchoring portion threadedly mounted to the bolt. This anchoring portion is resiliently deformable in one direction which allows it to pass one way through the hole and has a normal configuration wherein it grasps the inside surface of the wall board to hold the attached bolt against removal from the hole. The anchoring portion comprises a resilient, ribbon-like strip spirally wound into a cone-like configuration and resiliently held therein with inner and outer edge portions of the strip overlapping and in close mutual proximity. A nut for receiving the bolt is affixed to a first, inner end of the spirally wound strip and is held with its bore aligned with the central axis of the conical configuration. The anchor may be uncoiled when the turns of the spiraling strip are urged apart in one direction axially.

  • Patent number: 4886407
Abstract: A barrel nut fastener apparatus that includes a nut loosely retained in a prescribed position by a retainer that is adapted to be slidably received in a cylindrical bore formed in a panel. The nut is carried loosely on a seat formed in the retainer and is positioned to threadedly receive a bolt projecting through aligned transverse holes in both the panel and the retainer. A spring is interposed between the nut and the seat, to bias the nut outwardly to a position where a cylindrical extension of the nut projects outwardly into engagement with the panel's transverse hole. This ensures that the fastener apparatus remains in its desired position within the panel's cylindrical hole for proper engagement by a bolt.

  • Patent number: 4886406
Abstract: An anchor member assembly is made up of an anchor bolt and an expansion wedge. The assembly can be anchored in a borehole in a receiving material by inserting the assembly and then displacing the expansion wedge relative to a wedge surface on the anchor bolt. At its trailing end, the anchor bolt has an axially extending outwardly flaring head section forming at least a part of a conical surface. The head section can be driven by hammer blows into a wooden member. Initially, the anchor bolt and expansion wedge are in detachable engagement until the head section is driven into the wooden member. Subsequently, as the expansion wedge is axially displaced relative to the anchor bolt, the engagement between them is released and the anchor member assembly is secured in the receiving material.

  • Patent number: 4884934
Abstract: A junction bolt for joining members by use of clamping nuts engaged with the junction bolt is provided with an axial inner hollow hole in which a piston member is located so as to define a space between the outer peripheral surface of the piston member and the inner wall of the junction bolt. The space is divided by a sealing member into a pressurizing space into which a pressurized fluid is introduced and a temperature adjusting space into which a heat medium is introduced. In the bolt clamping force adjusting method, the temperature of the junction bolt is first adjusted to a predetermined temperature and an extending amount of the junction bolt to be caused when an aimed clamping force is applied at this predetermined temperature.

  • Patent number: 4884466
Abstract: Rollers situated on the circumference of a threaded screw inside a nut have a cavity at each end containing a spring and a pin. When a roller enters the recirculation groove, the spring/pin assembly bearing against the cap recirculates the roller towards the interior of the nut.By enabling the roller to be repositioned at the time of its reinsertion between the threads of the screw and of the nut, this arrangement provides for flexible operation of the screw.
