  • Patent number: 6856624
Abstract: A communication network providing mobile IP services to mobile nodes sharing the same private IP address. A mobile node visits a foreign network from its home network and transmits a registration request including its private IP address to a foreign agent on the foreign network. If the foreign agent determines that another mobile node with a valid registration shares the same private IP address, the foreign agent requests the mobile node to use a temporary address. The temporary address is sent along with the registration request to the registering mobile node's home agent. When the home agent receives a packet addressed to its mobile node, it creates two tunnels. An outer tunnel is created using a care-of address associated with the foreign agent. An inner tunnel is created using the temporary address assigned to mobile node. The packet is then forwarded via the two tunnels.

  • Patent number: 6801537
Abstract: A method of adaptively resolving contentions in a digital communication system is provided. A headend, such as a Base station Transceiver System, transmits a Media Access Control message to Customer Premise Equipment units. The Media Access Control message includes information on the current load on shared transmission resources. The Customer Premise Equipment units implement a truncated binary exponential back-off algorithm for requests. However if the current load on the transmission resources is low enough, the Customer Premise Equipment units reduce the back-off times of backlogged requests to allow them to take advantage of the low load. The headend may also maintain a table of service flows and their levels of activity. If the level of activity at shared transmission resources falls below a threshold, the headend determines from the table which service flows are likely to have backlogged requests.

  • Patent number: 6639906
Abstract: A system and method for performing the digital receive processing for multiple signals received over the same RF band is described. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, digital RF samples are stored in a queue which is accessed by a searcher and demodulator. The searcher and demodulator are preferably located on the same integrated circuit along with the queue. The demodulator demodulates a set of reverse link signals stored within the queue where each reverse link signal is received with at a particular time offset and processed using a particular channel code. The searcher periodically searches for reverse link signals not being processed by the demodulator, and for access requests transmitted via the access channel. The searcher preferably searches during the worthy power control groups of each reverse link signal, which corresponds to the two of sixteen power control groups transmitted during, an eighth rate frame.

  • Patent number: 6545978
Abstract: In a network including a plurality of exchanges, an exchange at an order request destination is specified from a maintenance terminal of an exchange at an order request source, and an order for performing maintenance and management is input. The OAM cell including the order is generated and transmitted as an ODR-OAM cell. The exchange specified with the ODR-OAM cell performs the process according to the order, and transmits the result of the process to the order request source by using an ODR-OAM cell. The order request source receives the result of the process, and maintains and manages the network. OAM cells in an ATM network are defined as OAM cells for a file update process. The first cell is an FVC-OAM cell for checking the version number of the system file of an exchange at an opposing exchange. The second cell is an FSP-OAM cell for preparing the start of the file update process. The third cell is an FIS-OAM cell for dividing a new file used for an update and carrying the file.

  • Patent number: 6480664
Abstract: Tape formatting, tracking and trick mode data generation are disclosed for providing trick modes for compressed video stored on a video tape. The tape is formatted so that trick mode data is recorded at normal speed within certain areas delineated by predetermined boundaries that are within a maintainable range of a predetermined ideal scan path of the heads. These boundaries are oblique to the normal speed tracks and define trick mode data areas in which trick mode data may be recorded. To facilitate tracking, sync words and trick mode identification codes are interleaved within the trick mode data areas. During tracking, the heads reproduce the sync words and identification codes, and the identification codes that match the currently utilized trick mode are counted. The count during a current interval is compared to a count during a previous interval or a threshold to determine if the heads have locked onto the ideal scan path or deviated therefrom.

  • Patent number: 6275492
Abstract: A system for routing data through a network determines whether router identification information is associated with the data. The system then identifies a next hop router from a router table if router identification information is associated with the data. Otherwise, the system identifies a next hop router from a routing table if router identification information is not associated with the data. When identifying a next hop router from the router table, the system determines whether a match exists between entries in the router table and the router identification information. The system may set a switch tag in the data packet, in which the switch tag corresponds to a destination router identification. The router table used by the system contains information regarding how to reach all known routers.

  • Patent number: 6233257
Abstract: A method and system that enables an automatic delay setting within a wireless local loop system. The present invention determines the transmission distance time delay existing between a base station and a personal station by employing the communication interface that is utilized between them. The main reason for determining the transmission time delay caused by large transmission distances (e.g., over 300 meters) existing between base stations and personal stations is to compensate for it. Once the transmission distance time delay is known, the personal station utilizes that value to compensate for it. Specifically, the present invention directs a base station to transmit a control signal to a personal station. The personal station receives the control signal and transmits a signal to the base station. The base station determines if it started to receive the signal from the personal station later than it expected the signal to arrive, assuming close proximity of the two stations.
