  • Patent number: 5002344
Abstract: A fluid pressure control device for antilock control includes a housing having inlet and outlet ports communicating with a master cylinder and a wheel brake, respectively, and a spool mounted in the housing so as to be slidable between two positions. When the spool is in one of the two positions, a large-flow channel is formed between the inlet and outlet ports, whereas in the other position, a small-flow channel is formed therebetween. When in an intermediate positon, both the large-flow and small-flow channels are closed. A bypass channel branches off from the small-flow channel so as to extend to the outlet port. A check valve is provided in this channel. Even if the spool should get stuck and immovable at an intermediate position between the above two positions, hydraulic oil can be fed from the inlet port to the outlet port through this bypass channel.

  • Patent number: 5002343
Abstract: An electronic braking system for a towing vehicle for towing a standard semi-trailer without such a braking system has a separate pressure control channel for the generation of trailer brake pressure whenever the towing vehicle is braked or if the parking brake of the towing vehicle is applied. The pressure signal level set in the towing vehicle is a function of the driver's electrical demand signal, compensated for trailer load and operating gradient. The compensation for trailer load is evaluated by assessing the total trailer mass from measurements of towing load during acceleration and substracting from this value the portion of the trailer load being supported by the towing vehicle as sensed by vertical force protection means on the towing means.

  • Patent number: 5000525
Abstract: A brake system for automotive vehicles with a device for anti-lock control. A pump is provided which, in the control mode, delivers a reduced fluid volume for positioning a piston of the master cylinder. The reduction of the delivery volume is accomplished in that the non-return valve (64, 65) is kept open. Accordingly the movements of the piston (56) become ineffective with respect to the delivery of pressure fluid. The non-return valve (64, 65) is kept open by an electromagnetic actuating unit (62). This actuating unit is controlled by the electronic control unit of the anti-lock device. In this manner at least one piston of the master cylinder and thus the brake pedal are positioned during the control mode in a predefined manner.

  • Patent number: 5000296
Abstract: In a preferred embodiment a self-adjusting vehicle wheel drum brake is provided having an adjuster strut with a threadably extending star wheel and an adjuster pawl mechanism having a dual step tip. The dual step tip allows the adjuster mechanism to move the adjuster pawl in small incremental steps, thereby lowering in half or in close approximate thereto, the amount of wear required upon a pair of brake shoes before the adjuster pawl will effectuate outward movement of the brake shoes.

  • Patent number: 5000300
Abstract: A hydraulic retarder and control composed of an accumulator, for rapid filling of the retarder; a pulse valve, for controlling fluid flow to and from the accumulator; a regulator valve, for limiting the inlet pressure to the retarder; and a pair of check valves, for preventing fluid flow from the retarder to a pressure source and from the retarder to the accumulator. The pulse valve is controllable to provide rapid filling of the retarder, while the regulator valve will direct fluid from a secondary source to the retarder and control the pressure at the retarder inlet. The accumulator is filled from the main pressure source, between retard requests, at a rate that does not disturb the main transmission pressure level. One of the check valves and the pulse valve prevent the fluid in the accumulator from returning to the system other than when a retard request is present.

  • Patent number: 4998602
Abstract: A single generally U-shaped wire spring has a plurality of torsional spring loops formed in the center and fitting over an anchor mounting post for a leading-trailing shoe assembly. Each arm of the spring extends along the web of a shoe and terminates in a hook end which fits within a slot in the associated shoe web. The spring will return the brake shoes to their retracted position after service or parking brake operation, reengaging the adjuster/strut assembly after actuation of the wheel cylinder during service brake operation; retain the lower ends of the shoes against the anchor plate; and hold the shoes against the backing plate by the cantilever spring force component of the spring acting against retaining lips formed as part of the anchor mounting post, resulting in a cantilever spring load directed onto the web of each shoe toward the backing plate.

  • Patent number: 4997066
Abstract: Wheel-locking device, in particular for a pram, which includes at least one wheel unit (4) and a wheel-locking member capable of being displaced substantially parallel to the axle of the wheel and of coming into contact with the wheel rim in order to lock its rotational position, wherein the wheel unit (4) is linked to the frame of the pram by means of a vertical linking sleeve (12) and in that the locking member includes a movable finger (14a, 14b) actuated by a control shaft (15) which moves vertically inside the linking sleeve. A single action on the flexible rod 18 therefore simultaneously locks the two pivoting wheel units of the axle beam 3 in terms of rotation. In one embodiment, the same wheel units may be locked in a fixed direction by means of locking parts (32, 33) interacting with the notches (30) of the linking sleeve (12).

  • Patent number: 4993524
Abstract: According to an illustrative example of this invention, the piston of a hydraulic oscillation damper is provided with a traction valve, i.e. a valve which is intended to damp the outward movement of the piston rod. This traction valve includes two valve discs and a valve member. The valve member is biased towards a closed position and urges the valve discs against a valve face of the piston. In response to a predetermined pressure difference between the two working chambers on both sides of the piston, a flow passage is opened by lifting the valve discs and the valve member from the valve face. Below said predetermined pressure difference, a preliminary restricted flow passage exists. This preliminary restricted flow passage extends in series across the radially inner circumferential edge of a first valve disc adjacent to the piston and through radially inner edge recesses and through radially outer edge recesses of a second valve disc adjacent to the first valve disc.

  • Patent number: RE33557
Abstract: A brake control system is described that prevents a wheel lockup condition by identifying the brake pressure that produces the maximum possible braking effort during each brake pressure application period and applying a predetermined fraction of the identified pressure after an incipient wheel lockup condition is sensed.
