Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a stacking portion on which a sheet is to be stacked, an image forming unit, a size detection unit, a setting unit, a notification unit, and a control unit. The image forming unit forms an image on a sheet fed from the stacking portion. The size detection unit detects a size of a sheet stacked on the stacking portion. The setting unit sets at least one sheet size to be allowed for use at the image forming apparatus. The notification unit provides notification of information. Abstract: In a method to control a color printer or color copier, a color separation of a first color and a color separation of a second color are applied to a printing substrate to generate a print image. Also, with aid of a printing unit, at least a first control field is printed on the printing substrate. The first control field has a predetermined pattern that includes at least the first color and the second color and is designed such that a color value of the first control field changes depending on a registration error between the first and the second color separations. A reference field is also printed on the printing substrate, a pattern of the reference field being predetermined such that it has a same color value independent of the registration error. The color value of the first control field is measured with a color value sensor. The color value of the reference field is also measured with the color value sensor and a desired color value is determined depending on the color value of the reference field.

Abstract: According to an embodiment of this invention, opening/closing of an ADF unit is correctly detected even under the influence of outside light. More specifically, a light source provided in a reading unit is turned on to irradiate a white board, and first data based on reflected light from the white board is obtained. Next, the light source provided in the reading unit is turned off, and second data based on reflected light from the white board is obtained. The difference between the first data and second data is compared with a predetermined threshold. It is determined based on the comparison whether the ADF unit is in an opened or closed state.

The method renders the graphics data to produce a print preview representation stored as intermediate graphics data in an intermediate graphics format. A modifying operation for modifying graphics content of the print preview representation is detected, and the method determines whether the print preview representation contains information about the graphics data required to perform the modifying operation based on a class of the modifying operation and a content of the print preview representation affected by the detected modifying operation. Where the print preview representation contains information required to perform the modifying operation, the print preview representation is modified, and otherwise the method utilizes the graphics data written in the page description language to apply the modifying operation.
