Patent number: 5087231Abstract: An output shaft is supported by means of a ball bearing at one end, a radial needle bearing and a thrust bearing. The ball bearing is arranged for supporting the output shaft against most part of radial load. On the other hand, the trust bearing is arranged for supporting the output shaft against the thrusting force which is exerted on the output shaft while the engine driving torque is transferred therethrough. Such construction reduces radial and thrusting stress to be exerted on the needle bearing. Therefore, the radial needle bearing to be used in the shown construction is required substantially small load capacity and thus can be satisfactorily small for allowing the transaxle unit to be designed compact.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 1991Date of Patent: February 11, 1992Assignee: Nissan Motor Company, LimitedInventors: Toshio Yamaguchi, Kazuhiko Sugano, Kazuyoshi Iwanaga

Patent number: 5085101Abstract: A device for providing a retarding force against the motion of a vehicle, which device does not intrude upon the engine, is not dependent upon the vehicle gear selected, and does not exhibit fade or skid characteristics. A multiple plate clutch engages the drive train of the vehicle with a compressor assembly. A three speed gear assembly is operatively connected between the multiple plate clutch and the providing modulation of the ratio of speed between the aerodynamic rotor and the drive train. A throttle valve governs the fluid mass flow through the rotor of the compressor assembly providing precise modulation of retarding torque exerted by the rotor. The device may also be adapted for other types of machines and motors having rotating shafts upon which it is desired to apply a retarding torque.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 1989Date of Patent: February 4, 1992Assignee: Anchor Tech, Inc.Inventor: Thomas A. Patent number: 5085106Abstract: An electric shift apparatus for a motor vehicle transmission in which the control means for the transmission includes a key card which must be inserted into a receptacle submodule of the control means to enable operation of the transmission and/or to enable starting of the vehicle engine. The key card includes a plurality of push button membrane switches corresponding to the various shift positions of the transmission as well as a magnetic strip containing the unique identifying code of the vehicle. Insertion of the key card into the receptacle submodule allows the magnetic code to be identified as the proper code for that particular vehicle, whereby to allow starting of the vehicle engine, and further enables the transmission of the vehicle so that selective depression of the various push button switches provided on the key card shifts the transmission to respective positions corresponding to the selected switches.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 1990Date of Patent: February 4, 1992Assignee: Automotive Products (USA) Inc.Inventor: Terry L. Patent number: 5081880Abstract: The force-locking connection between a shaft (1) and driving elements (21) attached to it is improved or achieved via a slight plastic expansion of the shaft in that the driving elements are arranged in groups and connected by connecting sleeves (22) produced so as to be integral with the driving elements. The higher degree of elastic expansion is limited to the region of the connecting sleeves so that the driving elements themselves are largely excluded from this process. The dimensional accuracy of the finish-machined driving elements is not adversely affected. If necessary, recesses (27) may be produced to form webs (24) as a result of which the elastic deformation occurring in the inner region (23) is reduced.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 1991Date of Patent: January 21, 1992Assignee: Emitec Gesellschaft fur Emissionstechnologie mgHInventor: Helmut Swars

Patent number: 5074168Abstract: A reverse-engaging condition is prevented by a reverse inhibit valve operated by the solenoid valve even if a shift lever is operated to a reverse range at forward running. A solenoid valve controlling a 1-2 shift valve is "OFF" when controlling a manual valve to a reverse range under 7 km/h of a vehical speed. The reverse inhibit valve is at a right-half position. Therefore, the hydraulic pressure from the reverse range port of the manual valve runs through oil passages and supplied to the hydraulic servos. At forward running over 7 km/h the solenoid valve is switched "ON", the reverse inhibit valve is switched to a left-half position and oil passages are isolated. When the solenoid valve is switched at forward running, a hydraulic pressure from a R range port of the manual valve does not operate on a difference of cross sectional areas of lands of the reverse inhibit valve, so that the reverse inhibit valve is kept at the right-half position together with a pressing force of a spring therein.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 1989Date of Patent: December 24, 1991Assignees: Aisin AW Co., Ltd., Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Kazunori Ishikawa, Takuji Taniguchi, Kunihiro Iwatsuki, Yutaka Taga

Patent number: 5072631Abstract: A control system for internal combustion engine installed in vehicle with automatic transmission which lowers the engine output torque for reducing the shock apt to be felt by the passengers of a vehicle equipped with an automatic transmission at the time of shifting gears. The clutch speed ratio between the transmission input and output shafts is calculated to compare with a first value. If the ratio goes beyond the first value, engine output torque is reduced by a first amount. Then the ratio is compared with a second value and if the ratio comes within the second value, the torque is further reduced by a second amount which is greater than the first amount. The ratio is continuously calculated and is again compared with a third value. When the ratio comes within the value, the torque is restored to the first reduction amount. The ratio is finally compared with the fourth value and if it comes within the value, the torque is fully restored to the initial state.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 1990Date of Patent: December 17, 1991Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Sachito Fujimoto, Toshitaka Imai
