Abstract: A catalyst for hydrazinolysis having high catalytic activity and long life concurrently with high thermal resistance is disclosed. The catalyst is composed of an alumina support having a substantially extended specific surface area and iridium being substantially supported thereon. The alumina support is prepared by the steps of adding aluminum alkoxide into hexyleneglycol (2-methyl-2, 4-pentanediol), heating at temperatures between 100.degree. and 200.degree. C. to form a sol, hydrolyzing the sol to a gel, and drying and calcining the gel.
