  • Patent number: 4746109
Abstract: Continuously printed forms, e.g. checks, are cut from a sheet, sequenced and fed longitudinally and horizontally so that they are overlapped. Trays are moved vertically downwardly and are laterally open so that the overlapped checks are inserted and thereby stacked in the trays. Defective forms can be removed prior to shingling and slip sheets can be inserted to designate locations at which defective forms have been removed.

  • Patent number: 4746108
Abstract: An improved chopper device for use in a folder for folding a signature which has been subjected to parallel folding at a parallel folding device and then conveyed by means of a conveying belt, in a direction perpendicular to the parallel folding direction. The chopper device is provided with an elongated opening having a mouthpiece below the conveying path therefor. An upwardly and downwardly movable chopper blade lowers when the signature is stopper at a predetermined position and forces the signature into the opening. A pair of rollers is provided below the opening in order to grip the signature forced into the opening by the chopper blade nd deliver it to a delivery conveyor. Brushes are provided on both sides of the opening thereabove so as to slidably hold both sides of the signature when the signature is lowered by the rollers through the opening.

  • Patent number: 4739704
Abstract: The present invention relates to a jaw folding device for a jaw cylinder of jaw-type folder and comprises a mother member detachably fixed in the groove formed in the cylinder, a fixed jaw plate fixed to the mother member, a controlled jaw plate so arranged as to contact to the fixed jaw plate a controlled jaw plate shaft for fixing the controlled jaw plate and pivotably supported on the mother member, an urging means for urging the controlled jaw plate to the fixed jaw plate and an angular control means for changing the angle of the controlled jaw plate shaft. The angular control means is actuated by a cam mechanism. The controlled jaw plate is isolated from the fixed jaw plate as the angular control means is actuated. The mother member of this jaw folding device can be easily dismounted from the cylinder drum so that the jaw folding device can be removed from the jaw-type folder to perform checking, maintenance, adjustment or replacement it.

  • Patent number: 4738037
Abstract: The invention relates to a track maintenance vehicle having a levelling attachment secured to a transverse carrier member at its rear. The levelling attachment faces downwards and is at least partially flexible. For achieving satisfactory levelling of relatively loose snow as well as of encrusted or compacted snow, the levelling attachment comprises a leading portion of triangular cross-sectional shape secured to the transverse carrier member along a first triangle side. The second triangle side of this portion is formed as a rigid compaction surface extending downwards and rearwards from the transverse carrier member. Connected to a rear portion of the compaction surface is a plate-shaped flexible portion extending substantially parallel to the second triangle side in the relaxed state, and in a substantially horizontal direction when under load.

  • Patent number: 4737045
Abstract: In a paper stacking device for pre-folded continuous form paper wherein the paper web is supplied to a deposit table from below and the paper stack is built up proceeding from below, a stepping motor is coupled in terms of drive to the feed region, this stepping motor generating the reciprocating stacking motion by reversal of rotational sense, whereby the lift and the motion sequence are controllable via an electronic control device dependent on the form length. The seating surface for the acceptance bands accepting the paper stack is formed by discrete support elements; the deflection rollers themselves thereby serve for taking up the supporting bands. The paper stacking device can be an integrated component of the printer and is pivoted into and out of the latter.

  • Patent number: 4735406
Abstract: A machine for accumulating folded sheets into brochures wherein the sheets are stapled to each other along fold lines has a rotary transporting device with several axially parallel saddle-like carriers for opened sheets and pushers which advance the sheets along their carriers into the range of a stapling device. The sheets are fed to the carriers at two or more stations which are spaced apart from one another in the axial direction of the transporting device and open the sheets shortly before the sheets reach the respective carriers so that each sheet which is deposited at the first station directly straddles its carrier and each sheet which is deposited at a next station directly straddles the previously deposited sheet. the stapling device has several stapling units which perform a pendulum movement about the axis of the transporting device and are operated to simultaneously apply staples to two or more brochures.

  • Patent number: 4732374
Abstract: The collating apparatus comprises a plurality of collating or collecting conveyors or product advancing means revolvingly driven about the axis of revolution of the collating apparatus. These collating conveyors are pivotably mounted at each end face of the collating apparatus in control levers or rocker arms. These rocker arms are pivotably mounted on two disc-shaped supporting or support elements. These support elements are mounted in mutual axial separation on a shaft of the collating apparatus rotatably driven about the axis of revolution. The control levers or rocker arms support control rollers or followers which travel in guide grooves of guide or control curves or cams. The control curves or cams are constructed such that the rocker arms together with the collating conveyors are pivoted inwardly and subsequently are again pivoted outwardly relative to the axis of revolution of the collating apparatus during its revolution.

  • Patent number: 4730820
Abstract: The apparatus for filing or ordering a scale flow of folded, flat printed products from a rotary printing press has sliding teeth formed into a filing comb arranged on both side of the scale flow and fixed to tooth supports and with, in each case, at least one sliding tooth engaging to the left and right of a printed product in the scale flow behind its fold. The tooth supports are fixed to rotatable chains arranged to the right and left of the scale flow. One drum runs laterally along side the scale flow, so that said engagement is permitted. An equal number of filing combs is fixed to the rotary chains and run in each case around two sprockets, at least one being a driving sprocket, the spacing of two teeth on the same rotary chain determining the new scale spacing.

  • Patent number: 4729311
Abstract: A printing apparatus which includes a single revolution clutch. The clutch includes first and second cam sections which comprise the output member of the clutch. When the clutch is released, a spring accelerates the output member to bring a control surface on the second cam section into operative engagement with a cylindrically-shaped, rotating, input member. An abutment member on the first cam section cooperates with a follower arm to stop the rotation of the output member after a single revolution. A solenoid and linkage are used to raise the follower above the abutment stop to release the clutch for another single revolution of the output member.

  • Patent number: 4729554
Abstract: The printed products to be provided with inserts or supplements are infed in respective pairs by an infeed conveyor to a processing drum or cell wheel. The cell wheel comprises substantially radially extending compartments which are open at the periphery of the cell wheel. Product feed devices, for example, clamps or grippers are arranged in the compartments for forwardly advancing the printed products located in the compartments. Each compartment is divided into two feed channels by a removable divider or partition wall. These divider or partition walls terminate at a predeterminate spacing from the product feed devices. Each of the two printed products which are conjointly conveyed as a pair are infed into a respective feed channel. The printed products in the feed channels of each compartment are then conjointly advanced and approximately simultaneously opened and are furnished with an insert or supplement.

  • Patent number: 4725050
Abstract: A multi-section folding apparatus has two outer formers which are respectively provided on both sides of a pair of inner formers which are defined by a pair of upper and/or lower formers of a vertical two-stage former folding machine in such a manner that the outer formers are positioned at the same level as that of the inner formers and with a slight spacing provided therebetween, thereby forming a quadruple former assembly. Two groups of turn bar mechanisms are disposed in such a manner that the course of each of the halved traveling sheets which are obtained by halving a traveling sheet and which are fed toward the two inner formers along their respective ones of the four travel lanes is changed to any one of the other three travel lanes. It is therefore possible to issue a newspaper made up of six to eight sections by means of straight folding without lowering the production speed.
