  • Patent number: 4899471
Abstract: An auger in a self-propelled snow removing machine including a running mechanism drivable by an engine, and a snow blower for discharging snow collected by the auger, comprises an auger cover disposed on a front portion of the snow removing machine, an auger output shaft disposed transversely in the auger cover and drivable by the engine, and at least one blade mounted on the auger output shaft and having an outer peripheral edge forming a substantially continuous helix around the auger output shaft. The blade comprises a plurality of mutually separate fins having outer peripheral edges jointly forming the helix and made of a resilient steel material.

  • Patent number: 4872453
Abstract: The present invention is an improved skin diving snorkel having a conduit with an unobstructed, open end above water and an underwater end which has an upward opening mouthpiece. The mouthpiece provides a flow path from the conduit to the interior of the diver's mouth. A purge valve, situated adjacent and below the mouthpiece, allows water in the snorkel to flow to ambient when hydrostatic pressure within the snorkel is greater than ambient. A chamber, intersecting the conduit at approximately mid-length, houses a float member. When the snorkel is filled with water the float member is buoyed into the conduit and blocks upward flow therein. The flooded snorkel is purged by exhaling into the mouthpiece. Because the float member blocks upward flow when the conduit is flooded, the upwardly expanding exhaled air is trapped beneath the float member. The trapped air displaces the water in the conduit, forcing the water down and out the purge valve.

  • Patent number: 4806034
Abstract: A system for precisely positioning a printing element relative to a rotating drum, as in a drum printer, employs two position signals for alignment purposes. A pair of linear grids is disposed along a path of travel of the printing element for generating, with the aid of optical beam and sensor devices, a periodic electric signal which varies in accordance with printing element position. One of the grids is stationary and the second of the grids moves with a carriage supporting the printing element. An encoder positioned alongside the drum is operative with a set of markings having a variation in spatial frequency, or a grid overlay, to produce an alternating electric signal which varies in accordance with rotational position of the drum. Motors which rotate the drum as well as a lead screw which translates the printing element may be constructed as synchronous motors to permit phase locking to each other.

  • Patent number: 4782607
Abstract: Improved means for removably attaching digging teeth to the cutting edge member of an earth-moving bucket. The attachment means includes a pair of clamping means which both apply sandwiching pressure on both the upper and lower surfaces of the edge member to hold the tooth in place against both front and side impacts.
