  • Patent number: 5095859
Abstract: A SOHC type internal combustion engine includes a pair of intake valves and a pair of exhaust valves. The intake valve driving means comprises a plurality of rocker arms disposed adjacent one another, including a pair of driving rocker arms operatively connected separately to the intake valves and a connection switchover mechanism capable of switching-over the connection and disconnection of the adjacent rocker arms in accordance with the operational condition of the engine. The exhaust valve driving means comprises a pair of exhaust valve-side rocker arms operatively connected separately to the exhaust valves and disposed on opposite sides of the intake valve driving means in positions opposed to said cam shaft, respectively. In the intake valve driving means, the opening and closing mode of the intake valves can be changed in accordance with the operational condition of the engine by operation of the connection switchover mechanism, thereby providing an improvement in output from the engine.

  • Patent number: 4593662
Abstract: An air flow in the combustion space which swirls or rotates about the cylinder longitudinal axis is produced for the fine distribution of the fuel by a correspondingly constructed inlet channel controlled by two inlet valves in a supercharged four-cycle internal combustion engine with direct fuel injection. With a low air mass flow, the rotary movement of the air in the combustion space is only weak and therefore prone to disturbance. An improvement is achieved by a change of the air flow in the inlet channel system. The valve actuation contains, for that purpose, an adjusting mechanism consisting of a piston-cylinder-unit fed with pressure oil, which effects in one operating function an automatic valve clearance compensation and which enables in a second operating function together with a controllable closure device in the pressure oil feed line a stoppage of one of the two inlet valves actuated in unison by the valve actuation.

  • Patent number: 4450822
Abstract: A gaseous fuel delivery system for a gasoline engine having means for gaseous fuel delivery comprising idle fuel delivery means and acceleration fuel delivery means. Electrically operable means responsive to ported vacuum in the carburetor throat controls operation of the idle fuel delivery means. Electrically operable means responsive to intake manifold vacuum controls operation of the acceleration fuel delivery means. An idle switch responsive to idle position of the throttle prevents opening of the idle fuel delivery means except when the throttle is in the idle position. The engine carburetor is arranged such that no gasoline is delivered for idle operation. Idle needle valves are closed, or eliminated. Transition slots are sized to be operational only as the throttle moves from the idle position and supply no fuel when the throttle is at idle.

  • Patent number: 4399800
Abstract: A device which is located between a carburetor and an engine intake manifold of an internal combustion engine includes oppositely rotating impellers mounted on air bearings. The air-fuel mixture exiting the carburetor impinges on the impellers and drives those impellers. Fuel droplets in the mixture are broken up to form a mixture capable of almost total burnout.

  • Patent number: 4391261
Abstract: A carburetor actuating system for two carburetors (5a, 5b) in V-shaped space (4) between two cylinders (2a, 2b) of a V-engine such that drafting directions of the respective carburetors are opposite to each other. One carburetor (5b) is controlled by a cable (16b) attached to an actuating arm (15b) connected to the valve stem (14b) protruding to the outside of the one carburetor (5b), i.e., in a direction away from the carburetor. The other carburetor (5a) is controlled by a driven arm (21a) connected to the valve stem (14a) protruding toward the carburetor (5b). The driven arm is actuated by a drive arm (21b) connected to the valve stem of the one carburetor (5a) through links (22a, 22b) hinged by a pin (24) constrained by a guide groove (28) to motion along a perpendicular bisector of a line passing through the axes of the valve stems (14a, 14b).

  • Patent number: 4354477
Abstract: A carburetor having a fuel mixing valve with multiple vanes which control the flows of main and secondary fuels into a valve mixing chamber. The octane rating of the fuel charge may be momentarily increased during periods of engine acceleration to permit the engine to have a higher compression ratio for optimum efficiency with a relatively low octane fuel. The fuel flow controlling vanes may be mounted on a common shaft for simultaneous movement or on separate support means for differential movement in response to an engine control. A fuel mixing valve is also disclosed for use with the second stage components of a two stage carburetor.

  • Patent number: 4274963
Abstract: The apparatus comprises a container having a V-shaped bottom disposed at an incline. Along the apex of the V, there is positioned an auger which has an exit extending out of the container at the top of the incline. A plurality of baffles extend transversely of the auger. As a solids laden mud is introduced into the container at the lowest point of the incline, the liquid part of the mud climbs over the baffles and exits at outlets positioned toward the top of the incline while the solids become entrapped between the baffles and fall into the auger which carries them upwardly and out of the container.

  • Patent number: 4122012
Abstract: A system for the desalinization of sea water is provided, which includes a barrier buried to a depth below the low tide water level in a sandy beach, and a collector vault, or well, buried in the beach behind the barrier, the vault having an opening in its side for receiving water passing through the barrier. The barrier is filled with selected filter materials, and the sand in the area between the barrier and the vault is treated with a selected material. After a period of pumping, desalinated water will appear in the vault and may be pumped out of the vault. Whenever the water in the vault is pumped below a particular level, a new supply of desalinated water will flow in through the opening in its side from the barrier.

  • Patent number: 4076616
Abstract: In a biological water purification process dirty water such as sewage percolates through a submerged bed of activated carbon under aerobic conditions, the carbon particle size and the water flow rate being such that the time of contact of the water with the mass of carbon above an intermediate level of the bed is at least thirty minutes, oxygenation air being blown into the bed at this intermediate level so that the mass of carbon below this level remains substantially free of active colonies of bacteria. The bed can be reactivated as desired by flushing with clean water and then with dirty water to re-establish bacterial colonies.
