  • Patent number: 5434458
Abstract: A voice coil actuator includes a magnetic flux conductive material core, a magnet and an electrical current conductive coil. The core has a first surface and a continuous channel disposed in the first surface. The channel has a pair of opposing walls. The magnet is disposed in intimate contact with a first one of the walls and spaced from a second one of the walls so that a gap remains between the magnet and the second one of the walls. The magnet has a first face of a first magnetic polarity facing the first one of the walls and a second face of a second, opposite magnetic polarity facing the gap. The magnet is further spaced from a bottom of the channel so that magnetic flux is substantially normal from the second face across the gap to the second one of the walls.

  • Patent number: 5363323
Abstract: A plural output power supply comprises a converter transformer having a first primary winding and first and second secondary windings. A first DC output circuit is driven by the first secondary winding and comprises a first series rectifier, a first series inductor wound on a first core and a first parallel capacitor. A second DC output circuit is driven by the second secondary winding and comprises a second series rectifier, a second series inductor wound on a second core and a second parallel capacitor. A sense transformer or series resistor senses a current in the first primary winding of the converter transformer. Circuitry subtracts the current in the second secondary winding from current sensed from the primary winding. If the first DC output is used to drive the stable load and the second DC output is used to drive the noisy load, the difference in the two currents represents the stable current and is used to control the drive to the primary of the converter transformer.

  • Patent number: 5334899
Abstract: This invention relates to high-density discoidal brushless induction open frame motors and generators with multistacking, multiphasing and multistaging capability. These motors may be in the range from 10 hp to 25,000 hp or more and these generators may range from 10 kVA to 10 megawatts or more. Rare earth permanent magnets or wound DC field poles are arranged about a disk shaped rotor. A rectangular toroidal lamination core within the stator element serves as the mounting for numerous flat wound armature coils. The heat generated by the high flux and current densities is dissipated by a liquid cooling arrangement built into the toroidal stator element. The absence of the need to use the frame as a flux return path allows light weight aluminum to be used without a loss in efficiency. The open frame structure allows for easy cascading of multiple units along the same shaft for higher capacity.

  • Patent number: 5327032
Abstract: An electrically-energized rotary actuator includes an annular stator ring having a plurality of slot-like magnetic flux obstructions spaced around the ring circumference. An associated rotor has two permanent magnets that are polarized along the rotor diameter to form a south pole at one point on the rotor periphery and a north pole on a diametrically-opposed point on the rotor periphery. Two pole pieces are located at diametrically spaced points on the stator ring, each pole piece having a magnetic winding so that, when the windings are energized, a north pole and a south pole will be established for interaction with the poles formed by the rotor magnets. The flux obstructions in the stator ring cause the rotor to be deflected in steps so that the rotor has various discrete positions centered on the flux obstructions. The rotor can maintain a stable position uninfluenced by minor variations in the current applied to the stator windings.

  • Patent number: 5291120
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for symmetrically modulating a controlled series compensation system (2) in electrical networks (6). Impedance manipulated variables determined from a current control for the series compensators (14) of the system (2) are limited by determining an upper or lower limiting value (Z.sub.OO,Z.sub.OU). The upper and lower limiting values are respectively determined by adding a positive or negative deviation (.DELTA.Z.sub.+,.DELTA.Z.sub.-) to and subtracting it from a reference manipulated variable (Z.sub.O) for impedance. The reference manipulated variable (Z.sub.O) for impedance is selected from the impedance manipulated variables (Z.sub.y1,Z.sub.y2,Z.sub.y3). Thus, small asymmetries can be corrected and, given network faults of generally only a brief duration, unnecessary control deviations can be avoided.

  • Patent number: 5245244
Abstract: A piezoelectric ink droplet ejecting device drivable with a low voltage, simple in structure, less costly to manufacture and capable of producing printed data with high resolution. A piezoelectric ink droplet ejecting device has a plurality of ink ejectors each composed of a piezoelectric transducer for varying the volume of an ink passage to eject ink out of the ink passage. A single piezoelectric ceramic panel which is polarized in a thickness direction has a plurality of through holes parallel to the polarized direction. The through holes serve as ink passages. When a driving electric field is applied in a direction perpendicular to the polarized direction, the piezoelectric ceramic panel is elastically deformed under thickness shear effect, thus varying the volume of the ink passages to eject ink droplets therefrom.
