  • Patent number: 10681362
Abstract: Methods of encoding and decoding for video data are described in which multi-level significance maps are used in the encoding and decoding processes. The significant-coefficient flags that form the significance map are grouped into contiguous groups, and a significant-coefficient-group flag signifies for each group whether that group contains no non-zero significant-coefficient flags. A multi-level scan order may be used in which significant-coefficient flags are scanned group-by-group. The group scan order specifies the order in which the groups are processed, and the scan order specifies the order in which individual significant-coefficient flags within the group are processed. The bitstream may interleave the significant-coefficient-group flags and their corresponding significant-coefficient flags, if any.

  • Patent number: 10672132
Abstract: These techniques detect and compare amounts of motion of objects within video footage having sources of apparent motion. In an embodiment, for each frame of a video, a computer subtracts a background from the frame, converts the frame from grayscale to monochrome, and isolates regions of interest (ROIs) in the frame. For each frame, the computer identifies identifiable objects in the ROIs, selects selectable objects from the identifiable objects that have a percentage of motion that is within a particular range, and merges, into merged objects, subsets of the selectable objects that are separated by no more than a particular distance. Based on the merging, metadata is generated for any of: an object of the merged objects, the frame, or the video. The metadata may have a bounding rectangle, a bounding polygon, a frame timestamp, a frame identifier, or an object(s)'s identifier or percentage of motion.

  • Patent number: 10629241
Abstract: Methods and systems for compressing video content are presented. The methods and systems include analyzing a sequence of media frames stored in the memory device and calculating a displacement level of each of the media frames. The displacement level indicates how different each of the media frames is to a previous media frame. The sequence of media frames is divided into a plurality of cuts where each cut ends at a media frame having a substantially high displacement level. Frames to be removed from the sequence of media frames are identified in each cut based upon the frame's displacement level. The identified frames are then removed.

  • Patent number: 10623765
Abstract: The present technology relates to an encoding device and an encoding method capable of reducing the amount of information relating to information that specifies a reference image. An encoding unit generates a predicted image using a reference image. A transmission unit transmits inter_ref_pic_set_prediction_flag representing whether reference image specifying information specifying the reference image of a prior image that is an image prior to a current coding image in coding order is used as the reference image specifying information of the current coding image in a case where the current coding image is an image other than a first image of a GOP (Group of Picture). The present technology, for example, can be applied to an encoding device of an HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) system.

  • Patent number: 10616585
Abstract: When encoding an array of data elements of a stream of arrays of data elements, a number of bits used in the output bitstream to encode a previous array of data elements in the stream of arrays of data elements is estimated based on an amount of intermediate data generated for that previous array of data elements by the encoding process. A value of an encoding parameter to use when encoding the array of data elements being encoded is then selected based on the estimated number of bits used in the output bitstream to encode the previous array of data elements and a target output bit rate for the output bitstream produced when encoding the stream of arrays of data elements.
