  • Patent number: 9749657
Abstract: Deriving a motion vector of a current block, in a current frame, including: generating a motion vector predictor candidate list including a set of first motion vectors and a second motion vector, wherein a first motion vector of the set belongs to a block adjacent to the current block in the current frame, and the second motion vector is a temporal motion vector of a pixel at a modified position (x?, y?) in a previous frame, the modified position (x?, y?) being derived by modifying a top-left position (x, y) of the current block. The method also includes deriving the modified position (x?, y?) using arithmetic shift operations; setting the second motion vector equal to a motion vector at the modified position (x?, y?) of the pixel in the previous frame; and deriving the motion vector of the current block using a motion vector predictor and a difference motion vector.

  • Patent number: 9743098
Abstract: Methods of encoding and decoding for video data are described in which multi-level significance maps are used in the encoding and decoding processes. The significant-coefficient flags that form the significance map are grouped into contiguous groups, and a significant-coefficient-group flag signifies for each group whether that group contains no non-zero significant-coefficient flags. A multi-level scan order may be used in which significant-coefficient flags are scanned group-by-group. The group scan order specifies the order in which the groups are processed, and the scan order specifies the order in which individual significant-coefficient flags within the group are processed. The bitstream may interleave the significant-coefficient-group flags and their corresponding significant-coefficient flags, if any.

  • Patent number: 9729860
Abstract: A depth-sensing method for a time-of-flight depth camera includes irradiating a subject with pulsed light of spatially alternating bright and dark features, and receiving the pulsed light reflected back from the subject onto an array of pixels. At each pixel of the array, a signal is presented that depends on distance from the depth camera to the subject locus imaged onto that pixel. In this method, the subject is mapped based on the signal from pixels that image subject loci directly irradiated by the bright features, while omitting or weighting negatively the signal from pixels that image subject loci under the dark features.

  • Patent number: 9626578
Abstract: A viewing aid includes a camera, a viewing surface within a field of view of the camera, a memory, a display, and software programmed to track a tracking element within the field of view. Viewing material is placed on the viewing surface. The camera, viewing surface, and material all remain substantially stationary. The camera captures and stores an initial image of the material in the memory. The software then tracks the location of a tracking element within the field of view then maps the location to a portion of the initial image in memory using an X-Y coordinate system, and/or identifies character elements of the material adjacent the tracking element then maps the character elements to corresponding character elements of the initial image in memory. An enhanced image is then displayed on the display corresponding to the mapped portion of the initial image.

  • Patent number: 9583098
Abstract: A system and method for generating a video sequence having mouth movements synchronized with speech sounds are disclosed. The system utilizes a database of n-phones as the smallest selectable unit, wherein n is larger than 1 and preferably 3. The system calculates a target cost for each candidate n-phone for a target frame using a phonetic distance, coarticulation parameter, and speech rate. For each n-phone in a target sequence, the system searches for candidate n-phones that are visually similar according to the target cost. The system samples each candidate n-phone to get a same number of frames as in the target sequence and builds a video frame lattice of candidate video frames. The system assigns a joint cost to each pair of adjacent frames and searches the video frame lattice to construct the video sequence by finding the optimal path through the lattice according to the minimum of the sum of the target cost and the joint cost over the sequence.

  • Patent number: 9538183
Abstract: In one embodiment, an edge server in a content-distribution network (CDN) stores a video asset in the form of partially encoded transport-stream chunks, where the partial encoding does not include quantization processing. When the edge server receives a request from a user device for a particular segment of the asset at a particular quality corresponding to a target bitrate, the edge server retrieves at least one partially encoded chunk corresponding to the request and completes the encoding (including quantization processing) of the at least one partially encoded chunk to generate an output file at the requested target bitrate. The edge server then adds corresponding audio data and any auxiliary data to the output file to generate a transport-stream file. The edge server then transmits the transport-stream to the user device as one or more transport-stream packets.

  • Patent number: 9516331
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for encapsulating a plurality of data substreams encoded in a bit stream, wherein the encoded data substream is obtained by entropy encoding of a symbol subsequence representing an image or a series of images. The method includes grouping data substreams into substream pairs according to an iterative traversal order predetermined from the plurality of substreams, and on the basis of a pair of the substreams, obtaining a symmetrical pair by reversing a data order making up the second substream of the pair. The obtained pairs are then concatenated within a sequence. The binary stream is created by encapsulating the sequence and information related to a number of substreams and related to the sizes of pairs of symmetrical substreams.

  • Patent number: 9479762
Abstract: A stereoscopic video temporal frame offset measurement system uses an improved signature curve generator to generate a robust signature curve for each of the left and right image sequences of a stereo video signal. The resulting signature curves are cross-correlated over a specified correlation range to generate cross-correlation coefficients. The cross-correlation coefficients are compared to a high threshold, and a temporal frame offset is generated and displayed for each cross-correlation coefficient that exceeds the high threshold. Each new temporal frame offset result is highlighted when displayed, otherwise the last result is displayed in a background fashion.
