  • Patent number: 6290707
Abstract: A cosmetic pad for use in removing surface detritus from the skin at pressures a lay person can apply in scrubbing the skin is comprised of a segment of lofty, fibrous, non-woven structure of mixed denier organic (e.g., nylon or polyester) crimped filaments bonded at contacting points with a binder such as thermosetting resin and containing finely divided, biocompatible, soft abrasive particles. The cosmetic abrasive pad of the present invention is advantageously configured for safe, convenient use by a person scrubbing one's self, in the home. In one embodiment of the cosmetic abrasive pad of the present invention, a circular abrasive segment is detachably affixed to a circular handpiece carrying a flexible web bearing hook fasteners on one side and a hand loop or finger loop. The circular handpiece hook fasteners (e.g., Velcro® brand hook fasteners) releasably engage with the fibers of the abrasive segment and permit the user to adjust the position of the abrasive segment on the handpiece.

  • Patent number: 6287251
Abstract: A speculum 10 includes a main body 12 with two dialator fingers 14A and 14B that are connected at their respective proximal ends 16A and 16B to the main body 12. A further dialator finger 28 extends between the fingers 14A and 14B and is fixed to the main body 12. An actuator 20 is pivotally coupled to the main body 12. The actuator 20 is formed with a dialator finger 70 that is located between the fingers 14A and 14B and opposite the fixed finger 28. When the actuator 20 is pivoted the finger 70 immediately commences to pivot away from the remaining fingers 14 and 28. After a predetermined degree of pivot, the actuator 20 comes into contact with the inside of fingers 14 near their approximal ends 16 to cause the distal ends of those fingers to move away from each other. Fingers 14A and 14B are hinged about respective canted hinge axis so that when they are abutted by the actuator 20 they move in a combined upward and sideways motion.

  • Patent number: 6283977
Abstract: A stereotactic apparatus including a support slide for being slidably mounted to an arc, a microdrive unit having an instrument holder for depth adjustment of an instrument along a depth axis, in an essentially arc parallel plane, an arc perpendicular adjusting mechanism for adjustment of the microdrive unit along an arc perpendicular axis, an arc parallel adjusting mechanism for adjustment of the microdrive unit along an arc parallel axis, wherein the arc perpendicular adjusting mechanism includes an arc perpendicular slide, which is movably mounted to the support slide. The arc parallel adjusting mechanism is mounted at an end of the arc perpendicular slide, so that by movement of the arc perpendicular slide in a direction along the arc perpendicular axis the arc parallel adjusting mechanism also moves in that direction.
