  • Patent number: 4479841
Abstract: Apparatus for changing press cauls of a heated press used for fabricating a finished board. A plurality of rods having mandrels are arranged adjacent the longitudinal sides of said cauls and removably positioned in a corresponding plurality of receiving loops secured to each caul. The cauls may then be moved vertically with respect to their platens. Clamps are used to secure each caul to their respective platens. Conveyor belts are used to insert a new caul pack into the press after removal of the old cauls. The conveyor belts are secured to a plurality of arms having suction pickup means and holders used to remove a protective intermediate layer between the cauls for completing the insertion operation.

  • Patent number: 4475978
Abstract: A method of labeling articles, including moving articles in a row through a labeling station, dispensing the label onto a labeling head and advancing the labeling head into the path of movement of the articles at the labeling station. The label is transferred from the labeling head to the forward face of the article at the labeling station while the labeling head is in the path of movement of the articles. The labeling head is then retracted from the path of movement of the articles.

  • Patent number: 4475970
Abstract: An integrally formed ratchet (90) and star wheel (95) is disclosed which rotates in unison with a tape applicator wheel (85). Eccentrically formed fingers (96a-d) cooperate with a downwardly facing wall to align and position applicator wheel (85) into correct position after each reciprocation of the splicer (30). Correct alignment is essential because a cutter blade 127 cuts the tape on the applicator wheel into pre-determined lengths by passing through a notch (104) in applicator wheel (85). Misalignment of the applicator wheel (85) may cause blade (127) to impact the applicator wheel (85) itself, damaging or destroying it.

  • Patent number: 4475975
Abstract: A method is provided for accurately laying down a well-defined decorative ink stripe on an elongated metal strip. In the method, a laminated hot stamp foil is calendered in printing engagement with the metal substrate strip between a grooved metal roller and a heated resilient roller having a peripheral printing tongue. The pressure of the tongue on the hot stamp foil precisely transfers the ink stripe onto the metal strip.

  • Patent number: 4474637
Abstract: The invention relates to a machine for making labels of textile material sealable by ultrasonic means and having a delivery section that operates in cycles, and a folding and ironing device for gripping, folding, and ironing the labels which are delivered one behind the other. In order to substantially improve the handling of the labels as they are being sewn in, there is provided after the folding device an ultrasonic sealing device for affixing to the backs of the labels creased folds thereof by means of a fused joint. The invention further relates to a label from textile material for tape sealable by ultrasonic means and having at least one fold creased onto the back thereof, the creased fold being connected to the label across an ultrasonically fused joint, as well as a label with or without a creased fold, the ultrasonically fused joint being formed as a detach-by-ripping fused joint extending across the entire width of the label.

  • Patent number: 4470864
Abstract: A pneumatic labelling apparatus including a portable base frame having a unitary handle member, in which the base frame includes a magazine for supporting a roll of separable label carrying web material, a web entraining device guiding the web from the magazine past a dispensing station, where each label is separated from the backing web, and then about a web feeding device. The web feeding device is sequentially actuable by a ratchet and pawl mechanism in which the pawl is reciprocably mounted upon a movable frame member within the base frame and operatively connected to the piston rod of a fluid-actuated cylinder within the handle member. The piston rod is actuated by a trigger and a control valve in a fluid circuit connected to the fluid-actuated cylinder.
