  • Patent number: 5825928
Abstract: A motion image decoding apparatus receives encoded image data which has first, second and third data regions, such as MPEG macroblocks which have predetermined sizes, and a motion vector for each of the data regions. The motion image decoding apparatus conceals errors in the first data region by generating an error signal and using a motion vector of a second data region which is located on a line preceding a line containing the first data region having the error and which is in a same picture as the first data region and also by using a motion vector corresponding to a third data region which is located in a column preceding the column containing the first data region having the error and which is also in a same picture as that of the first data region. If no error is generated in the first data region, the motion vector for that data region is used to perform motion compensation.

  • Patent number: 5822506
Abstract: A computer-controlled printing system includes a host computer, an intelligent printer and an intelligent post printer processor. The print job is controlled by defining print data, printer control data and printer post processor control data in a print data stream from the host computer. The print data and printer control data are read at the intelligent printer. The intelligent printer executes the print control data to print the print data on a print medium. The printer also determines if there is post processor control data in the print data stream and, if so, sends the post processor control data from the printer to the intelligent post processor. The post processor reads the post processor control data, and executes the post processor control data to perform selected modification of the print medium.

  • Patent number: 5815538
Abstract: The location of a subscriber device in a wireless cellular communications system is established by transmitting digital data signals to a cellular digital data receiver of the subscriber device from at least three different cellular cell site transmitters at known locations. Each data signal has a time-synchronized synchronization signal, preferably synchronized through the time signals of the global positioning system. The time of arrival of each of the time-synchronized synchronization signals is determined with respect to an internal clock of the receiver. The location of the subscriber device is established from the locations of the cell sites and the times of arrival of the synchronization signals relative to the internal clock.

  • Patent number: 5812283
Abstract: Two modes for releasing a memory, a mode in which the memory is released page by page and a mode in which the memory is released block by block are provided and one of the modes is selected in accordance with the amount of received data to enhance the reliability of the reception and recording with a smaller capacity of image memory. When the reception of the data is started and the image data is filled in the memory block, the recording of the received image to a recording medium is started. Each time the recording of the memory block is completed, the release mode of the image memory is set. Namely, when the reception of the page recorded in the memory hold mode is not yet completed and the remaining capacity of the image memory reaches below a predetermined capacity, the recorded memory blocks are released and the release mode is switched to the memory release mode.

  • Patent number: 5801841
Abstract: A pixel block is coded by both of a quadrature transform coding section and a block truncation coding section. A code amount counter determines a first code amount of one-block coded data produced by the quadrature transform coding section. A code amount judgment section compares the first code amount with a threshold that is smaller than or equal to a second code amount of one-block coded data produced by the block truncation coding section, and produces discrimination information indicating a comparison result. A selector selects the coded data that is output from the quadrature transform coding section if the first code amount is smaller than the threshold, and selects the coded data that is output from the block truncation coding section if the first code amount is larger than the threshold. A storage section stores the discrimination information for each pixel block and the coded data that is output from the selector and corresponds to the discrimination information.
