  • Patent number: 5946304
Abstract: The present invention enables a dial modem capable of simultaneous voice and data (SVD) operation and connected to a conventional telephone set to automatically select between SVD operation, analog voice operation and digital data operation when transmitting or receiving communication signals based on the position of the telephone set's hookswitch. The invention includes a hookswitch position detector, connected to the telephone set, for sensing the current position of the hookswitch, and a signal controller, connected to the hookswitch position detector. The signal controller may be configured to enable either of two hookswitch control option settings. The hookswitch control option settings determine the manner in which the controller responds to the current hookswitch position ("on-hook" or "off-hook") detected by the hookswitch position detector.

  • Patent number: 5920266
Abstract: A link detection circuit automatically terminates SCSI data transmission lines by use of a sense circuit which detects the absence or presence of an adjoining device or devices. The lines are automatically terminated at the ends with no user intervention. Wrong input/output cabling is precluded by use of a bi-directional link detection circuit. Detection is done without adding signal lines or disturbing buss functionality.

  • Patent number: 5920267
Abstract: A ring network system (1) has at least one node M which acts as a master or sender node to transmit an outgoing signal (O.S.1) having a relative address determined according to the relative location of the addressee node in the system. As the outgoing signal passes through each node in turn, it is changed and a node recognizes that it is the addressee node if the relative address has a predetermined common addressee value. The addressee node generates a return signal (R.S.1) with a node identifier which is transmitted in the opposite direction to the outgoing signal and the sender node ensures that this is received for a valid poll. The master node (M) may automatically configure itself by retrieving the identifier of all nodes in response to outgoing signals. This allows nodes to be easily added or deleted. Each node on the return path adds data which it has captured together with its identifier so that data may be captured from all nodes between the sender node and the addressee nodes.

  • Patent number: 5912631
Abstract: In automatic door locking apparatus and method for an automotive vehicle for locking and unlocking vehicle doors, a first timer unit in a controller starts a counting operation of a first set time period responsive to an unlock signal generated by a comparator so arranged as to compare a signal received by a receiver of a keyless entry system from a transmitter carried by an authorized operator operated to transmit a coded unlock signal with a preset code stored in a memory so as to determine whether the received code matches the preset code and, upon a match, to generate the unlock signal. When the first set time period is passed with no door of the vehicle opened, the automatic door locking is carried out via a door lock actuator to lock the vehicle doors.

  • Patent number: 5898382
Abstract: A communication system includes a scanning receiver coupled to a first antenna, a plurality of repeaters coupled to a second antenna, wherein each repeater operable on any channel in a band, and a computer coupled to each repeater for controlling the operation of each repeater and coupled to the scanning receiver for obtaining traffic information from the receiver and storing the information in memory. The memory also contains a table of channels and station IDs, wherein a station ID is associated with a particular channel. Each repeater operates on an available channel, as indicated by the traffic information, using the station ID associated with the channel. The repeaters themselves can be used for obtaining traffic information, eliminating the scanning receiver. The repeaters do not have final amplifiers. Instead, a low level combining circuit couples the signals from each repeater to a single linear amplifier.

  • Patent number: 5883582
Abstract: A method of reading multiple RFID tags located in a field of an interrogating antenna is based on periodic transmissions from the tags with large, non-transmission intervals between transmissions. The non-transmission intervals are fixed for a given tag, but are random between tags due to manufacturing tolerances in electrical components from which the tag is constructed, such that no coordination of transmissions from the interrogating antenna is required.

  • Patent number: 5872518
Abstract: A wireless selective calling receiver performs an intermittent receiving operation in a channel lock state. The channel lock is canceled when a detected network information is judged to be different from the network information of the self receiver for a predetermined consecutive number of times. The channel lock is also canceled when such judgement is made and the detected network information remains the same at the time of the judgement.

  • Patent number: 5854592
Abstract: In a wireless selective calling receiver, after synchronization establishment, when a received frame synchronization signal or a received frame identifying signal fails to be detected, the intermittent receiving timing is determined based on an ideal frame identifying value which was produced at a preceding intermittent receiving timing. Further when the received frame identifying value is coincident with the ideal frame identifying value, the intermittent receiving timing is determined based on the ideal frame identifying value. And, a next ideal frame identifying value which should be received at a next intermittent receiving timing is produced based on the ideal frame identifying value and then is stored to be used at the next intermittent receiving timing.

  • Patent number: 5844498
Abstract: A radio paging receiver receives a paging signal including at least a paging number signal and a message signal which follows the paging number signal. The receiver detects a paging signal which is intended therefor, by comparing the received paging number signal with a pre-stored paging number signal. Upon detection of the intended paging signal, the receiver searches the received message signal for a specific message signal which satisfies a condition that is pre-stored in a RAM of the receiver. If the receiver finds a message signal satisfying the pre-stored condition, it displays the message signal and/or enables at least one of a speaker, an LED indicator and a vibrator according to notification information that is also pre-stored in the RAM. The message searching condition and the notification information are pre-stored in the RAM through a keyboard coupled to the receiver.
