  • Patent number: 6925296
Abstract: A proximity detector for use in a mobile telephone having at least a microphone and a loudspeaker operatively connected to a signal processor is presented. The proximity detector includes data processing and control modules having a module for controlling the signal processor for activating the loudspeaker to reproduce an acoustic control signal. A correlator correlates a control signal received directly by the microphone and a control signal being reflected from a user of the telephone and then received by the microphone to determine the distance between the telephone and the user. A signal level controller controls the signal processor to vary the signal level of an audible signal reproduced by the loudspeaker proportionally to the determined distance between the telephone and the user.

  • Patent number: 6917796
Abstract: A triple balanced mixer has a compact size and is readily assembled. The triple balanced mixer has a planar substrate that is formed from several layers of low temperature co-fired ceramic. The substrate has a top layer, a bottom layer and inner layers. Vias extend through the substrate. A local oscillator balun and RF balun are located on the inner layers. An intermediate frequency balun is mounted to the top layer. Diode rings are mounted on the top layer. The diode rings are electrically connected to the local oscillator balun, the RF balun and the intermediate frequency balun through the vias.

  • Patent number: 6904273
Abstract: An apparatus for providing automatic gain control for use in a satellite terminal of a satellite communication system capable of transmitting a plurality of different modes of data. The apparatus includes a demodulator circuit having an analog to digital converter; a first variable attenuator having an attenuation value set on the basis of a measured power level of a predetermined data signal; and a second variable attenuator having an attenuation value set on the basis of the mode of data being received by the satellite terminal, where each of the data modes have a corresponding predetermined attenuation value associated therewith which is utilized as the attenuation value of the second variable attenuator when the satellite terminal receives the data mode.
