The arm is selectively engeagable by the driven gear to be rotated therewith. In use, a rod is positioned below the center guide and above the arm guide and a support, and the drive gear drives the driven gear to pivot the arm so that the arm guide deforms the rod as it engages the center guide at a bend point.

    Abstract: A method of incremental autofrettage is taught herein, whereby the cycle life of a metal liner in a pressure vessel is increased. This method serves to increase the yield strength of the metal liner through sequential work hardening due to repeated autofrettage at increasing pressures. By incrementally increasing the internal pressure used in the autofrettage process, the compressive stresses at an inner surface of the metal liner may be controlled so that post-pressurization buckling does not occur, yet the yield strength of the metal liner is substantially increased. The higher compressive stresses in the metal liner mean that higher Maximum Expected Operating Pressures (MEOPs) may be used without detracting from the cycle life of the metal liner, or alternatively, for lower pressures, a longer metal liner cycle life may be obtained. Either internal or external pressures may be used, generated by a pressure source, or a suitable die.

The tool head may include a channel for receiving the hanger and a passage that intersect with the channel and allows a wire to be threaded through the tool head and hanger. The method may involve positioning the hanger in the tool head such that the hanger is releasably engaged by a catch on the head. The wire is then threaded through the tool head and hanger so that opposing portions of the wire extend from the tool head. The hanger is then mounted to a support and released from the catch. Thereafter, the wire twisted about itself by rotating the tool head while moving the tool head downward to draw out the ends of the wire from the tool head.
