  • Patent number: 11423329
Abstract: A system learns to automatically identify, and detect, contextual conditions that may serve as action triggers to help please a user (or avoid annoying a user). Among other features, a simple sensor arrangement is detailed which, in addition to producing a customary stream of high bandwidth sensor data, provides an output of low bandwidth data. This low-bandwidth data serves to identify a particular reference pattern with which the high-bandwidth sensor data is found to correspond. Such a sensor can employ reference patterns discovered through pseudo-random trials. A great number of other advantageous features and arrangements are also detailed.

  • Patent number: 11402535
Abstract: A system includes a metal detector, a structure to hold the metal detector, and a processing unit which processes the measured signal from the metal detector. The measured signals of known objects are recorded with the metal detector. The signals are processed into sets of variables. When an unknown object is detected by the metal detector, the measured signal is processed into the same variables. The variables from the measured signal are compared against the variables in the database. If a match is found, the unknown object is determined.

  • Patent number: 11385365
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for generating a model for detection of seismic events. In this regard, one or more processors may receive from one or more stations located along an underwater optical route, one or more time series of polarization states of a detected light signal during a time period. The one or more processors may transform the one or more time series of polarization states into one or more spectrums in a frequency domain. Seismic activity data for the time period may be received by the one or more processors, where the seismic activity data include one or more seismic events detected in a region at least partially overlapping the underwater optical route. The one or more processors then generate a model for detecting seismic events based on the one or more spectrums and the seismic activity data.

  • Patent number: 11341410
Abstract: Machine-learning methods and apparatus are disclosed to determine critical state or other parameters related to fluid-driven failure of a terrestrial locale impacted by anthropogenic activities such as hydraulic fracturing, hydrocarbon extraction, wastewater disposal, or geothermal harvesting. Acoustic emission, seismic waves, or other detectable indicators of microscopic processes are sensed. A classifier is trained using time series of microscopic data along with corresponding data of critical state or failure events. In disclosed examples, random forests and artificial neural networks are used, and grid-search or EGO procedures are used for hyperparameter tuning. Once trained, the classifier can be applied to live data from a fluid injection locale in order to assess a frictional state, assess seismic hazard, assess permeability, make predictions regarding a future fluid-driven failure event, or drive engineering solutions for mitigation or remediation. Variations are disclosed.
