  • Patent number: 6800997
Abstract: The present invention has an object to provide a cold-cathode fluorescent lamp which can suppress sputtering caused by electric discharge and reduce consumption of mercury so as to achieve a longer lifetime even if a lamp current is large and a lighting tube has a small diameter. The cold-cathode fluorescent lamp according to the present invention is characterized in that a distance between the inner surface of the lighting tube and the outer surface of a cylindrical electrode is set such that electric discharge develops mainly on the inner surface of the cylindrical electrode. When the lighting tube has an inside diameter D1 of 1 to 6 mm and the maximum lamp current is 5 mA or more, an outside diameter D2 of the cylinder electrode is preferably set at D1−0.4 [mm]≦D2<D1.

  • Patent number: 6784617
Abstract: A plasma display panel includes a substrate, a dielectric layer formed on a top surface of the substrate, and partitions spaced a predetermined distance apart from each other and having a snaking or meandering shape. The partitions form channels having main discharge spaces and auxiliary discharge spaces alternately arranged and connected to each other. Red (R), green (G) and blue (B) phosphors are coated on the main discharge spaces in a triangular shape and where G and R phosphors are aligned with each other in a horizontal direction. The thicknesses of partitions forming the main discharge spaces where the R and G phosphors are coated are greater than thicknesses of the partitions forming the main discharge spaces where the B phosphor is coated.

  • Patent number: 6784606
Abstract: A color cathode-ray tube (CRT) having an evacuated envelope with an electron gun therein for generating at least one electron beam is provided. The envelope further includes a faceplate panel having a luminescent screen with phosphor elements on an interior surface thereof. A focus mask, having a plurality of spaced-apart first conductive strands, is located adjacent to an effective picture area of the screen. The spacing between the first conductive strands defines a plurality of apertures substantially parallel to the phosphor elements on the screen. Each of the first conductive strands has a substantially continuous insulating material layer formed on a screen facing side thereof. A plurality of second conductive wires are oriented substantially perpendicular to the plurality of first conductive lines and are bonded thereto by the insulating material layer. The insulating material layer comprises a low porosity lead-zinc-borosilicate glass.

  • Patent number: 6774545
Abstract: A parabolic reflector lamp is provided wherein lamp efficiency is improved by more substantially approximating the shape of a complete parabola at the inner reflective surface. In a first embodiment, the heat shield is placed at the mouth of the opening at the base of the lamp, thereby “filling in” the opening and substantially completing the parabolic shape of the reflector. In a second embodiment, the opening at the base of the lamp is narrowed to minimize its cross-sectional area and maximizing reflective surface area. In a third embodiment, the glass shell of the lamp is provided in a two-piece configuration, allowing the size of the hole through the base of the glass shell to be reduced. The openings required to accommodate electrodes (and an exhaust tube in sealed lamps) are located in a second cup-shaped piece attached via a flange to the main body of the glass shell.

  • Patent number: 6759801
Abstract: The low-pressure mercury vapor discharge lamp has a filling of mercury and an inert gas, and the glass discharge vessel (1) is provided on the inner surface (4) of the wall (3) with a film (6) of trifluoride and/or oxyfluoride of at least one element, which is trivalent at most, which is selected from lanthanides, lanthanum, scandium and yttrium. The film (6) counteracts transport of mercury from the discharge vessel to the wall (3) and of alkali from the wall (3) to the discharge vessel. In this manner, a decrease of the lamp's efficiency and of the service life are counteracted.
