Abstract: Various embodiments are directed to computer implemented methods of automatically reordering checks for an account utilizing checks. The methods may comprise determining a number of checks written on the account from a most recent check order. The number of checks written on the account from the most recent check order comprises a number of checks cleared on the account and a number of stop payment orders made on the account. The methods may also comprise determining a check usage rate, which may be proportional to a number of checks written on the account per unit time. The methods may additional comprise determining a time-to-exhaustion considering the number of checks written on the account and the check usage rate. Conditioned upon the time-to-exhaustion being below a predetermined threshold, an order of new checks directed to the customer may be initiated.

Abstract: A bid/offer spread market is presented that allows a trader to increase liquidity in traded items. A bid/offer spread market maker may make a bid/offer spread market. This bid/offer spread market may be made available to any market participant. In response to the spread market, an aggressor may respond to a bid or an offer with a hit or a take, respectively. In response to the hit or the take, the aggressor or bid/offer spread market maker, respectively, may create a separate underlying market using the selected (bid or offer) spread within a specified amount of time. The other party, a bid/offer spread trader, may trade on the quoted price within a specified amount of time, at which point a trade has occurred.

Abstract: A method for metering on-demand service (ODS) resource consumption by a user comprising a web services interface, a processing engine, and configuration data. A data gathering agent in the ODS stores the usage data in records, combines the records into packets, and transmits the packets to the web services interface. The web services interface passes the packets onto the processing engine, which stores the records in the packet into a database. The generalized format of the record is critical because it allows the metrics to be stored in the record table with the usage data. When a record contains an instruction to close a UOW, the processing engine applies the configuration data comprising composition rules and record selection rules to the database. The record selection rules select the desired records from the database. The composition rules aggregate, normalize, and compose the selected records to produce a metric.

Abstract: A method of allowing a user to participate in an auction. The method includes, in a computer system, determining, information relating to the auction, and generating coded data indicative of at least one parameter relating to the auction. The computer system then determines a layout defining an arrangement for at least one of the coded data and the information before causing printing of a form by causing printing of the coded data and the information using the layout. The coded data is adapted to be sensed by a sensing device which can generating indicating data indicative of the at least one parameter. The computer is responsive to the indicating data to determine the at least one parameter, thereby allowing the user to participate in the auction.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for verifying the legitimacy of a financial instrument used by a shopper is disclosed. A seller accepts details about goods and services to be delivered, and information about a financial instrument to be used in a purchase by a shopper. Identifier information is send to a financial institution issuing the instrument. The legitimate user of the instrument must access the instruments issuer's database to obtain the identifier information and derive verification information needed to answer a question posed by the seller. If the shopper can prove possession of the verification information then the goods are shipped or delivered to the shopper and payment is settled. The questions used to prove the shopper has the verification information may come in a variety of forms such as simple math equations, anagrams, or word to symbol matching problems.

Abstract: A computing device that includes a processor and a memory receives inputs including indications of a transaction amount and a type of transaction. It is determined whether the transaction amount exceeds a predetermined threshold. Further, it is determined whether the type of transaction is one of a cash transaction and a payment card transaction. If the type of transaction is a cash transaction and the transaction amount exceeds the predetermined threshold, a predetermined service fee is added to the transaction amount, and a predetermined discount is subtracted from the transaction amount.

Abstract: Methods and systems for automated decision support in analyzing operation data from a complex network. Embodiments of the present invention utilize these algorithms and techniques not only to characterize the past and present condition of a complex network, but also to predict future conditions to help operators anticipate deteriorating and/or problem situations. In particular, embodiments of the present invention characterize network conditions from operation data using a state estimator. Contingency scenarios can then be generated based on those network conditions. For at least a portion of all of the contingency scenarios, risk indices are determined that describe the potential impact of each of those scenarios. Contingency scenarios with risk indices are presented visually as graphical representations in the context of a visual representation of the complex network.

Abstract: A method and a system are provided to allocate a borrower's monthly home loan repayments to a loan provider to an interest payment account and an equity accrual account; and, to further allocate to a retirement or education account a monthly amount of savings that is correlated to that portion of each monthly home loan repayment comprising interest on the loan. The monthly amount of savings allocated to the retirement or education account is computed by multiplying that portion of each monthly home loan repayment comprising interest on the loan by a savings rate that is a function of an economic benchmark.

The data files and image files are separated both in time and in space, with the data files being used to promptly initiate the transfer of funds to and from appropriate accounts, while the paper checks, at a remote location and typically lagging in time, are scanned to create digital image files and deposited as an image or substitute check if deemed ACH ineligible. The method provides for the comparison of data files to image files, based on MICR information, to find any unmatching or mismatched items for exception processing and a process to manage ACH-ineligible items as an image or substitute check. A process for translating raw MICR data to a desired format, and for identifying the proper translation to be applied, is described.

Abstract: Embodiments include systems and methods of detecting fraud. In particular, one embodiment includes a system and method of detecting fraud in mortgage applications. For example, one embodiment includes a computerized method of detecting fraud that includes receiving mortgage data associated with an applicant and at least one entity related to processing of the mortgage data, determining a first score for the mortgage data based at least partly on a first model that is based on data from a plurality of historical mortgage transactions associated with the entity, and generating data indicative of fraud based at least partly on the first score. Other embodiments include systems and method of generating models for use in fraud detection systems.

Abstract: An optimum auction method using a network is disclosed. Especially, being different from a typical auction method for simply evaluating a personally proposed bod price, the optimum auction method evaluates various evaluation particulars for the auction and evaluation methods in overall, thereby selecting an optimum bidder who is close to an intention or taste of an auction initiator or able to maximize a profit even though the selected optimum bidder does not propose the highest or the lowest bid price. Accordingly, it is also possible to broaden a range of participation and improve efficiency on the auction. Also, there are various types of the optimum auction method including a reverse auction, a lease auction and a reverse lease auction which can proceed with various trading methods by maximizing the profit of the auction initiator.

Abstract: Various methods and systems for auctioning items such as golf tee times, restaurant reservations, concert tickets or hotel reservations are disclosed. Users can effectively bid on a large number of items but receive at most one item at the end of the auction. This has the favorable effects for the users of: (1) increasing the probability of successfully bidding for at least one item; (2) making the auction process more convenient by greatly reducing the need for actively monitoring the auction; and, (3) decreasing the possibility a user will be out bid at the last moment and receive no item. This also has the favorable effects for the seller of increasing the probability their listed items will sell and increasing the expected average sales price.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention can be used to assign policies to assets and enforce the policies in a dynamic environment. In one embodiment, the present invention includes discovering a plurality of assets using a plurality of distributed software interfaces over a network, each asset being having a plurality of attributes. A user can input receiving a group filter criterion, which can then be used to create and display a plurality of virtual asset groups to the user, each virtual asset group containing representations of assets having the same attributes for the received group filter criterion. In one embodiment, the present invention provides the ability to apply policies directly to virtual asset groups, and the policies are applied to virtual asset group members dynamically.
