  • Patent number: 9292045
Abstract: A method of automatically activating a camera application implemented in a mobile device in locked mode starts with the processor receiving a first signal from an accelerometer. The device's processor activates the camera application when the processor determines that the mobile device has remained in a stationary portrait or landscape position for a period of time based on the first signal. Activating the camera application includes signaling by the processor to the display device to display a camera screen from a locked screen. The processor may also receive a second signal from a proximity sensor that detects presence of a nearby object to the mobile device. When the processor determines that there is presence of the nearby object to the mobile device based on the second signal, the mobile device remains in locked mode and the processor does not activate the camera application.

  • Patent number: 9269012
Abstract: Systems and approaches are provided for tracking an object using multiple tracking processes. By combining multiple lightweight tracking processes, object tracking can be robust, use a limited amount of power, and enable a computing device to respond to input corresponding to the motion of the object in real time. The multiple tracking processes can be run in parallel to determine the position of the object by selecting the results of the best performing tracker under certain heuristics or combining the results of multiple tracking processes in various ways. Further, other sensor data of a computing device can be used to improve the results provided by one or more of the tracking processes.

  • Patent number: 9245497
Abstract: Systems and methods dynamically configure a display of an electronic device to a desired display resolution and/or a magnification factor without noticeable impact on the user viewing experience. According to certain aspects, the distance between a user and the display is measured, and the desired display resolution is determined based on the distance. If a user is exhibiting symptoms of presbyopia, a magnification factor may be determined. A request indicating the desired display resolution and/or magnification factor is transmitted to a server that supplies images, such as pictures or videos. The image is received from the server and displayed on the display. A focus area distance and/or a pupil orientation of the user may also influence the desired display resolution.

  • Patent number: 9230345
Abstract: Systems, methods and apparatus for image formation improve power efficiency of display devices by displaying low resolution composite color subfields. In some implementations, a display controller receives data indicative of a plurality of pixel values included in an image frame and derives a plurality of initial component color subfields. The display controller then derives a composite color subfield including a plurality of common composite color intensity values assigned to respective pixel blocks. Each pixel block is associated with a plurality of pixels. The display controller derives a plurality of updated component color subfields based on the initial component color subfields and the composite color subfield.
