Patent number: 5748491Abstract: An improved signal processing method in a signal processor for performing the deconvolution of a signal resulting from an analytical separation process is disclosed. In a first aspect, a signal representing a plurality of partially separated sample zones is measured, a point-spread-function of the signal is determined, and the Fourier transform of the signal and the point-spread-function is taken. Next, a noise component n of the signal is determined and the value of a result signal A(f) is calculated using the following filter ##EQU1## where D(f) is the Fourier transform of the signal, P(f) is the Fourier transform of the point-spread-function, and P*(f) is the complex conjugate of P(i). Finally, the inverse Fourier transform of the result A(f) is taken and reported as A(t). Preferably, the point-spread function is a Gaussian function having a standard deviation .sigma., where .sigma. is determined using either an .alpha..beta. tracker or the function .sigma.=(a+bt.sup.2).sup.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1995Date of Patent: May 5, 1998Assignee: The Perkin-Elmer CorporationInventors: Daniel B. Patent number: 5748965Abstract: A language processing method targeted at hardware having a data space greater than the data width of an architecture is improved in that address calculation of an array element is performed efficiently and the size of an object is reduced while the execution performance of the object is enhanced. A command which designates a maximum size of an array is inputted, and it is analyzed whether or not the designated size is equal to or smaller than a fixed size. When a result of the analysis is equal to or smaller than the fixed size, a subscript of the array is taken out first. An offset is calculated from contents of the subscript thus taken out and the data width of the array element, and an address of the array element is calculated from the offset thus calculated and the top address of the array.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 1997Date of Patent: May 5, 1998Assignee: NEC CorporationInventor: Hiroko Isozaki

Patent number: 5748504Abstract: In a fluid flow measuring apparatus, a flow of fluid is established through the apparatus at a first known flow rate. For each of two states of the apparatus, electrical drive pulses are applied to transmitting transducers. From the output signals of receiving transducers upcount and downcount values are derived which are indicative of the elapsed times between the drive pulses applied to the transmitting transducers and the zero crossings of the output signals of the receiving transducers, with the values being stored in a form that indicates the frequency of occurrence thereof. At least one test is applied to the stored upcount and downcount values to determine if the values have an acceptable distribution and if so using the stored values to determine a first calibration value for the apparatus. Then a flow of fluid is established through the apparatus at a second known flow rate. Again, for each of two states of the apparatus, electrical drive pulses are applied to transmitting transducers.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 1996Date of Patent: May 5, 1998Assignee: Welch Allyn, Inc.Inventor: Peter Fletcher-Haynes

Patent number: 5748492Abstract: The heating value of a sample gas is calculated by a microcontroller (12) from the heating value of a reference gas, and from flow ratios determined as the gas is consumed by catalytic combustion. In a preferred embodiment, chambers (5, 14) of fixed volume are charged to a predetermined pressure with a reference gas and a sample gas, respectively, and flowed to the catalyst at variable, changing flow rates as pressure decays. During the discharge cycle, a pressure transducer (13) senses the decaying pressure and this information is input to the microcontroller (12), which computes molar flow rates and which also senses the power level of combustion through a bridge circuit (24) in the catalytic apparatus (8, 10). Based on a ratio of molar flow rates and a ratio of corresponding power levels, a heating value of the sample gas is calculated by the microcontroller (12) and output to a visual display or other output device.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 1996Date of Patent: May 5, 1998Assignee: Badger Meter, Inc.Inventors: William H.
