Patent number: 4893228Abstract: A high-efficiency programmable power supply including a linear regulator and a switching pre-regulator. The switching pre-regulator monitors the voltage drop across the series pass regulator pass transistor and maintains a predetermined voltage drop thereacross. The programmable power supply output voltage is varied according to a digital signal applied to the linear regulator. The switching pre-regulator, in providing a generally constant voltage drop across the linear regulator pass transistor, increases efficiency of the power supply by reducing excess voltage which appears at the input of the linear series pass regulator to a minimum level below which the linear regulator can operate. Therefore, the power supply according to the present invention maintains high efficiency over a wide range of selectively programmed output voltages.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 1988Date of Patent: January 9, 1990Assignee: Hewlett Packard CompanyInventors: Herbert P. Patent number: 4853608Abstract: An AC voltage regulator includes a transformer arrangement having a plurality of taps so that an input line voltage is passed to an output line with the output line voltage being determined by the nominal value of the input line voltage together with an amount contributed by the transformer. The device is switched by a network of relays one of which acts as a polarity reversal switch so that the voltage generated by the transformer is either added or subtracted to the nominal voltage. Further relays used in two series control the selection of the transformer tap. A transient suppression circuit uses a triac and resistor to communicate current from the input line to the output line with the triac gated into conduction on breaking of a relay contact. The input line voltage is measured by a comparator using a plurality of op-amps in series with the outputs therefrom passing through a logic circuit to control the relays.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 1987Date of Patent: August 1, 1989Inventor: Chester Schrade

Patent number: 4837671Abstract: A state signal is formed to indicate a transition to a bypass mode of operation. In forming the signal of each winding system of a corresponding converter transformer on a side of the converter transformer are determined, weighted with weighting factors and summed up. The summation current formed in this manner does not have any null zones in the normal operation of the converter. All weighting factors are different if the phase currents between the converter and the converter transformer are used to produce the summation current. In the case of a converter transformer which is connected to the converter via a delta-connected winding system and in which the winding currents are used, certain differences formed by the weighting factors are not to be the same. A DC Hall converter with an insertion hole is particularly well suited for weighting and combining the currents of each individual winding system.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 1988Date of Patent: June 6, 1989Assignee: Siemens AktiengesellschaftInventors: Georg Wild, Rembert Kohler, Manfred Weibelzahl, Martin Haushofer, Johann Messner

Patent number: 4792976Abstract: On pattern matching an input pattern arranged along a first time axis to each concatenation of patterns selected from reference patterns and arranged along a second time axis with feature vectors of the input pattern and the concatenation placed at a common frame period, a dynamic programming algorithm is used by classifying the reference patterns into classes in compliance with reference pattern lengths and by giving variable block widths to slant parallelogrammic blocks of a common block slope. The variable widths should be decided for the respective classes. Preferably, a k-th class comprises a reference pattern of a reference pattern length which is not shorter than .beta.kW and is shorter then .beta.(k+1)W, where .beta. represents the block slope and W, a fundamental block width determined by the block slope under a minimum of the reference pattern lengths. In this event, the variable block width is equal to kW.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1985Date of Patent: December 20, 1988Assignee: NEC CorporationInventor: Masao Watari

Patent number: 4759067Abstract: An apparatus for extracting, storing and repetitively replaying a broadband atasample is fabricated from proven electronic components to assure long term reliability and reproducibility. A broadband acoustic signal is digitized and stored in a RAM until it is loaded with the desired signal. An adjustable clock controls the rate at which the stored signal is loaded and repetitively displayed so that its spectrum and characteristics can be fully analyzed. Appropriate filters are provided on the input and output sides to block incoming signals outside of the range of interest and those signal components attributed to the variable clock. Selection of particular portions of the stored desired signal may be addressed for detailed analysis on a repetitive basis if needed.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1985Date of Patent: July 19, 1988Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventor: Robert E. Patent number: 4651042Abstract: A piezoelectric vibrator comprises a substrate consisting of Elinvar, in which a vibrating element is formed as an island. The vibrating element is connected to and supported by strip-like connecting portions which are connected with the surrounding frame. A piezoelectric film is formed on the surface of the vibrating element. Of the longitudinal end portions of the vibrating element in the vicinity of the connecting portions, one main surface side is formed as a thin-plate portion by etching, while the rest of the vibrating element has its thickness intact. The longitudinal edges of vibrating element are defined by etching carried out simultaneously with or after the previous etching step.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 1985Date of Patent: March 17, 1987Assignee: Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd.Inventors: Takeshi Nakamura, Kenji Ando, Ikuo Matsumoto

Patent number: 4648019Abstract: An improved ringing generator is disclosed, for producing and transmitting an AC ringing voltage waveform to a subscriber line from a negative and positive DC voltage source. The ringing generator is characterized by a transformer having a primary winding and a secondary winding. The primary winding includes a plurality of taps dividing the primary winding into a plurality of winding segments. The secondary winding is connected to subscriber line via a filter network. Each winding segment is connected to a buffer-driver which has a first lead connected to the DC voltage source and a second lead connected to a source of control signals. Responsive to the control signals a selected pair of buffer-drivers are alternatively enabled connecting for a predetermined time period the associated coupling segments to the DC voltage source thereby, producing a switched ringing voltage waveform which is coupled to the secondary winding.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 1985Date of Patent: March 3, 1987Assignee: GTE Communication Systems CorporationInventor: Douglas C.
