Abstract: In a backlight, for example, a pair of U-shaped discharge tubes are connected to connectors of a discharge tube lighting circuit. A secondary output voltage of a first transformer is applied to a first end of one U-shaped discharge tube via a power supply electrode. A secondary output voltage of a second transformer is applied to a first end of the other U-shaped discharge tube via a power supply electrode. A secondary output voltage of a third transformer is applied in common to the other (second) ends of the U-shaped discharge tubes via other power supply electrodes. The secondary output voltages of the first and second transformers are the same in polarity, and are opposite to the secondary output voltage of the third transformer in polarity.

  • Patent number: 7683861
Abstract: A driving arrangement for a plurality of light emitting diodes (LEDs), comprising a first power supply line (Vcc), a second power supply line (GND) and a set of signal lines (1a, 1b, 1c) for carrying brightness intensity and or chromatic information for the plurality of light emitting diodes (54). In a first possible configuration of use, the first (Vcc) and second (GND) power supply line jointly supply power to an “active” lighting source and the light emitting diodes (54) are driven as a function of the brightness intensity information provided via the signal lines (1a, 1b, 1c). In a second possible configuration of use for driving a “passive” source, the second power supply line (GND) is not used and the brightness of the light emitting diodes (54) is controlled by switching signals applied via the first power supply line (Vcc) and the set of signal lines (1a, 1b, 1c).

  • Patent number: 7675244
Abstract: A power supply and method for operating a power supply for a short arc lamp are provided herein. The power supply and method can operate to provide to a number of advantageous operations. One aspect herein provides a power supply which utilizes a constant power mode type of operation. However, the constant power mode is modified to allow for some variation in power in order to provide for a more constant light output by the lamp. A second aspect herein provides for controlling the operation of a boost voltage applied to the lamp at start up. This control allows for adjusting the applied boost voltage to accommodate the changing characteristics of the lamp itself, and these adjustments can allow for extended life of the lamp.

  • Patent number: 7633231
Abstract: A device for generating atmospheric pressure cold plasma inside a hand-held unit discharges cold plasma with simultaneously different rf wavelengths and their harmonics. The device includes an rf tuning network that is powered by a low-voltage power supply connected to a series of high-voltage coils and capacitors. The rf energy signal is transferred to a primary containment chamber and dispersed through an electrode plate network of various sizes and thicknesses to create multiple frequencies. Helium gas is introduced into the first primary containment chamber, where electron separation is initiated. The energized gas flows into a secondary magnetic compression chamber, where a balanced frequency network grid with capacitance creates the final electron separation, which is inverted magnetically and exits through an orifice with a nozzle. The cold plasma thus generated has been shown to be capable of accelerating a healing process in flesh wounds on animal laboratory specimens.

  • Patent number: 7613271
Abstract: A system and method for containing plasma and forming a Field Reversed Configuration (FRC) magnetic topology are described in which plasma ions are contained magnetically in stable, non-adiabatic orbits in the FRC. Further, the electrons are contained electrostatically in a deep energy well, created by tuning an externally applied magnetic field. The simultaneous electrostatic confinement of electrons and magnetic confinement of ions avoids anomalous transport and facilitates classical containment of both electrons and ions. In this configuration, ions and electrons may have adequate density and temperature so that upon collisions they are fused together by nuclear force, thus releasing fusion energy. Moreover, the fusion fuel plasmas that can be used with the present confinement system and method are not limited to neutronic fuels only, but also advantageously include advanced fuels.
