  • Patent number: 9791270
Abstract: A method to determine a type of blood circuit attached to an extracorporeal blood treatment console including: pumping a liquid through a blood passage of the blood circuit, sensing a first pressure in: the blood passage while the passage is closed and pumping stopped, pumping an additional amount of the liquid into the blood passage while the blood passage is and remains closed and thereafter sensing a second pressure, and determine a dimensional characteristic of a fluid passage in the blood passage based on the additional amount of the liquid and the second pressure.

Abstract: A wicking apparatus includes a composite condenser membrane comprising a substrate layer, a vapor inlet end, a liquid discharge end, a plurality of cavities disposed in the substrate layer fluidly coupling the vapor inlet end to the liquid discharge end, and a nanoporous filler material disposed within the plurality of cavities. The nanoporous filler material has a first plurality of open pores with a maximum diameter in the range of 0.2 to 200 nanometers. The first end of the liquid conduit is fluidly coupled to the liquid discharge end of the composite condenser membrane. The wicking apparatus further includes a wick composite evaporator membrane comprising a substrate layer, a liquid inlet end, a vapor discharge end, a plurality of cavities disposed in the substrate layer fluidly coupling the liquid inlet end to the second end of the liquid conduit, and a nanoporous filler material disposed within the plurality of cavities.

  • Patent number: 9605422
Abstract: A storm water catch basin hazardous liquid valve that is automatically responsive to the presence of hazardous liquids in storm water run-off, the valve utilizing a hydrophobic barrier member to separate hazardous liquids from water. Collection of a sufficient amount of hazardous liquids across the hydrophobic barrier member initiates a float release member to seal off the catch basin. In the neutral or non-activated status, the storm water run-off enters the catch basin, passes through the valve assembly and out through the storm water conduit system in normal manner. When a hazardous liquid, such as oil, gasoline, chemicals, etc., is present in the storm water run-off above a threshold amount, the valve activates to close off the catch basin such that the storm water run-off is precluded from entering the storm water conduit system.

  • Patent number: 9370751
Abstract: A water-treatment separating membrane includes a polyamide active layer formed on999 a porous support. The ratio of a maximum value with respect to a minimum value of a ratio of a peak height of a C?O double bond of a carboxyl group (—COOH) with respect to a peak height of a C?O double bond combined with an amide group (—CONH—) is from 1.2 to 4, when measured after acid treating the polyamide active layer and by using a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR).

  • Patent number: 9186603
Abstract: A sludge protector canopy baffle system for use in a clarifier tank with a tank bottom, and peripheral vertical wall bounding the interior of the tank is formed by a plurality of individual perforated baffles interconnected and supported by other components of the tank forming a rigid ceiling of sloped and curved perforated baffles allowing the incoming water to pass on its surface minimizing sludge re-suspension and directing the flow on top of the blanket in the settling zone of the tank. Each baffle has a curved surface in the lateral direction to allow drainage of solids and openings to allow gas release and water flow. The baffles are interconnected along the length by cross connectors to ensure rigidity. The resulting system provides a sludge protector canopy baffle system by which the water flows uniformly through the tank without disturbing or re-suspending settled or thickened sludge and overall tank performance is enhanced.

  • Patent number: 8921635
Abstract: This invention relates to gas-phase synthesis of butadiene from ethanol or ethanol and acetaldehyde mixture. The method of synthesis includes ethanol or ethanol and acetaldehyde mixture conversion in the presence of a catalyst, which differs from the known methods by the carrying out of the interaction in the presence of the solid catalyst, which contains metal, chosen from the group of silver, gold or copper, and metal oxide, chosen from the group of magnesium, titanium, zirconium, tantalum or niobium oxides. The method announced is used for condensation process under the conditions of continuous flow fixed bed reactor. The invention allows to reach high yield and selectivity to butadiene and high level of conversion of the feed.
