  • Patent number: 9961692
Abstract: Network-side and device-side methods and apparatuses improve transmit link adaptation for devices operating in a cellular network that have interference-canceling receivers. Own-cell link adaptation towards a device in a current transmission interval exploits a determined mapping between the interfering-signal cancelation efficiency of the device versus the interfering-signal transport format, in combination with actual knowledge of the transport format that will be used to make an interfering neighbor-cell transmission in the current transmission interval. For example, a serving radio node uses the known transport format of the interfering transmission, to accurately determine the expected cancelation efficiency for the device with respect to the interfering transmission, and uses the expected cancelation efficiency to obtain a more accurate estimate of the own-cell channel quality expected for the device in the current transmission interval.

  • Patent number: 9948547
Abstract: Mechanisms are provided for tracing a route taken by a packet in a Software Defined Network (SDN). Each switch in the SDN is assigned a first color label, from a set of color labels, such that such that adjacent switches have different color labels. Rules are installed in each switch to forward a received data packet to the SDN controller in response to a second color label of the received data packet not matching the first color label assigned to the switch. A second color label, from the set of color labels, is assigned to a trace data packet. A route of the trace data packet is traced through the SDN based on the second color label and application of the one or more rules to the trace data packet at each of the switches in the SDN as the trace data packet is received by each of the switches in the SDN.

  • Patent number: 9917728
Abstract: A first fabric abstraction layer couples to a data link layer and a physical layer of a network fabric device. The network fabric device is connected to other network elements within a network via at least one network connection, such as a fiber optic connection. A second fabric abstraction layer couples to the data link layer and an application of the network device. The second fabric abstraction layer provides an application programming interface (API) to the application. The API allows the application to generate configuration instructions for configuring the at least one network connection. Upon receiving the configuration instructions generated by the application, the second abstraction layer sends the configuration instructions to the first abstraction layer via the data link layer. The first abstraction layer then configures the at least one network connection to transmit data according to the configuration instructions.

  • Patent number: 9872258
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and system for enabling user equipment devices (UEs) to apply less attenuation than may be specified more generally for UEs served by a base station of a wireless service provider. The base station may operate on a carrier band, serving UEs that are subscribers of the wireless service provider as well as UEs roaming in the base station's coverage area from another service provider. To avoid uplink transmission power leakage across the edges of the carrier band, the base station may broadcast a message to all the UEs notifying them to attenuate their respective transmission levels. In response, a UE may determine whether or not it is roaming to a wireless communication network of a different service provider. If the UE determines that it is not roaming, it may then attenuate its uplink transmission power by less than an amount indicated by the message.

  • Patent number: 9860876
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a best-effort scheduled access method and system that enable nodes to request, and a hub to assign, tentative, but not committed, scheduled allocations, referred to as unscheduled bilink allocations, in which data traffic is transferred between the nodes and the hub on a best-effort basis. The tentative allocations will be available if the network of the hub still has enough bandwidth, but will be shifted or reduced otherwise. This invention unifies tentative and committed scheduled allocations in the same access framework, thereby facilitating access scheduling and offering access flexibility.

  • Patent number: 9820199
Abstract: A mobile device may transition between Extended Service Set (“ESS”) networks seamlessly, such that a consumer never loses the network connection despite the transition. The communication for enabling a transition may be prior to association with that network. The seamless transition may be enabled through the creation and utilization of a central key holder authority that advertises its identity to mobile devices in a pre-associated state. The mobile device can use the key discovery communication along with a key generation method to authenticate and/or associate with a network and transition from one ESS to another. There may be a common root key across ESSs. At each new access point (“AP”) that the mobile device encounters, ESS and key holder identities may be discovered through discovery communications.

  • Patent number: 9813961
Abstract: An Internet Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) identifies a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network serving the UE. The IMS receives a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Invite message for the media session to the UE and responsively transfers a status request for delivery to the LTE network serving the UE. The LTE network identifies a status of an LTE base station serving the UE and identifying an alternative communication network serving the UE. The LTE network determines that the media session should be redirected to the alternative communication network based on the status of the LTE base station and the identified alternative communication network serving the UE. The LTE network transfers a status response for delivery to the IMS indicating media session redirection to the alternative communication network. The IMS then transfers the SIP Invite message for the media session to the UE for delivery to the alternative communication network serving the UE.
