  • Patent number: 10240873
Abstract: A joint assembly of vapor chambers connects the vapor chambers to effectuate joint operation thereof. For example, two paired vapor chambers are connected therebetween by a capillary pipe and a gas pipe. The capillary pipe is filled with a third wick which connects with a first wick and a second wick in the two vapor chambers. The two vapor chambers are in spatial communication with each other because of the gas pipe. A working fluid in the two vapor chambers is transferred between the first, second and third wicks by capillarity. The gas-phase working fluid moves between the two vapor chambers via the gas pipe, thereby allowing the two vapor chambers to operate jointly.

  • Patent number: 10228170
Abstract: Embodiments of a refrigerant distributor for a micro-channel heat exchanger (MCHEX) are described. The refrigerant distributor may be configured to have orifices and/or a flow valve that are inside a header of the MCHEX. The MCHEX can be used as an evaporator in a cooling cycle, where refrigerant is distributed into the header(s) through the orifices and the flow valve may be generally in a closed state that generally prevents a refrigerant flow through the flow valve. In a heating cycle, the flow valve of the refrigerant distributor may be configured to be in an open state that allows the refrigerant to flow into the refrigerant distributor and to be directed out of the MCHEX through the refrigerant distributor. In some embodiments, the refrigerant distributor may be configured to receive liquid refrigerant, so as to eliminate the need of an expansion valve in a HVAC system.

  • Patent number: 10231360
Abstract: Embodiments include a heat sink cell comprising a first reservoir having a first volume of space and a first material stored in the first volume of space. The first material provides a first heat sink thermal operating range for the transfer of heat. The cell comprises a second reservoir and a second material stored in the second reservoir. A shape memory alloy (SMA) closes an opening of the second reservoir. The SMA is responsive to a temperature change of the first material or external sources to automatically open the opening so that the first material or the second material spontaneously pass through the opening to cause an endothermic reaction or an exothermic reaction between the first material and the second material to create a second heat sink thermal operating range different from the first heat sink thermal operating range. Embodiments also include a system and method of dual-mode passive thermal management.

  • Patent number: 10222113
Abstract: A solar adiabatic cooling vest. The cooling vest utilizes adiabatic evaporation to cool hot, dry air. Hot outside humid air is drawn by an exhaust fan through an air inlet over large particles of salt to lower the air humidity before passing through a wetted wick material. Heat in the air evaporates water in the wetted wick material, thus causing the air leaving the wick material to be saturated and at a lower temperature than the incoming air. The saturated air passes through a salt filter to lower the air's relative humidity. After exiting the salt filter, the cooled, drier air passes through an air filter to further lower its humidity and remove any salt particles from the air. The cooled air is then distributed through flexible outlet cooling tubes to a person's body, room, or enclosed space.
